American Grilled Skewers 3

Serves 4 to 6 Appetizer meat, Appetizers

American Grilled Skewers 3

American Grilled Skewers 3 takes its cues from the casual backyard gatherings that define a summer evening across the United States. Born from the tradition of home cooks who know that a meal is as much about preparation as it is about sharing, this dish is crafted with a simple yet generous hand. The lamb cubes are seasoned with just enough cumin and olive oil to enhance their natural flavor, while the onion adds a touch of sweetness.

Expect each skewer to deliver a satisfying contrast between the tender lamb and the crisp, slightly charred edges. The olive oil’s richness marries beautifully with the smoky cumin, creating a bite that’s both hearty and bright. There's no need for elaborate sides here—let these skewers stand proudly on their own, much like the gatherings they so often anchor.

Ingredients

  • 600 glamb cubes
  • 1onion
  • 2 tbspolive oil
  • 1 tspcumin
  • to tastefine sea salt and black pepper

Method

  1. Start by cutting the lamb into uniform cubes, about 1.5 inches each, to ensure even cooking. Peel and cut the onion into similar-sized chunks. This will help the onion cook at the same rate as the lamb when skewered.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the lamb cubes and onion pieces. Drizzle with 2 tablespoons of olive oil, ensuring all pieces are lightly coated. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of cumin over the mixture, then season generously with fine sea salt and black pepper to taste. Toss everything together until the lamb and onion are well coated with the oil and spices.
  3. Thread the lamb and onion pieces onto skewers, alternating between the two. This will allow the flavors to meld together as they cook. Make sure to leave a little space between each piece on the skewer to ensure even heat distribution.
  4. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. If using a grill pan, place it over the stove and allow it to heat until a drop of water sizzles on contact. This indicates that the pan is hot enough for grilling.
  5. Place the skewers on the grill or grill pan. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, turning occasionally, until the lamb is browned on the outside and cooked to your desired level of doneness. The lamb should be juicy with a slightly pink center, and the onions should be tender with a slight char.
  6. Once cooked, remove the skewers from the grill and let them rest for a minute or two. This allows the juices to redistribute within the lamb, enhancing the flavor.
  7. Finish by sprinkling a final touch of fine sea salt over the skewers while they are still warm. Serve immediately, allowing everyone to enjoy the freshly grilled flavors.
