Filipino Meat Pastry Bites 3

Filipino Meat Pastry Bites 3 brings the warmth of Filipino home cooking to your table. Rooted in the everyday meals shared among family, this dish is cooked with an instinctive touch—a pinch of salt here, a generous splash of oil there. These bites are not reserved for special occasions; they find their place in the comforting rhythm of daily life, where the meal is both a necessity and a pleasure.

Each bite promises a satisfying crunch from its golden pastry shell, yielding to a savory filling of seasoned ground beef and onions. The balance of flavors is simple yet profound, with salt and pepper adding depth to the rich meatiness. Serve them hot, and let each crisp morsel speak of home, where the heart of Filipino cooking truly lies.

Ingredients

  • 300 gground beef
  • 1onion
  • 12pastry wrappers
  • for fryingoil
  • to tastefine sea salt and black pepper

Method

  1. Begin by finely chopping 1 onion. This will ensure it cooks evenly and blends well with the ground beef. Set aside the chopped onion and prepare your 12 pastry wrappers by separating them gently to prevent tearing.
  2. In a large skillet, heat enough oil over medium heat to coat the bottom of the pan. Add the chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent and fragrant, which should take about 2-3 minutes. This step builds the base flavor for your filling.
  3. Add 300 g of ground beef to the skillet with the onions. Break up the meat with a wooden spoon or spatula to ensure even cooking. Cook until the beef is browned and no longer pink, with a slight crust forming on the edges, which adds depth to the flavor.
  4. Season the beef mixture with fine sea salt and black pepper to taste. Stir well to combine, allowing the seasoning to integrate fully with the meat. Taste the mixture and adjust the seasoning if necessary, ensuring a balanced flavor profile.
  5. Lay out a pastry wrapper on a flat surface and place a spoonful of the beef mixture in the center. Fold the wrapper over the filling to form a triangle or rectangle, pressing the edges firmly to seal. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
  6. In a clean skillet, heat more oil over medium-high heat until shimmering. Carefully place the filled pastry bites in the oil, frying in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. Cook until the wrappers are golden brown and crispy on both sides, turning once during cooking.
  7. Once the pastry bites are cooked, remove them from the skillet and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve immediately while hot, allowing the crispy exterior and savory filling to shine as part of a shared meal.
