Pakistani Meat Pastry Bites 3

Pakistani Meat Pastry Bites 3

Pakistani Meat Pastry Bites 3 finds its roots in the bustling cities of Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and Islamabad, where home cooks master the art of balancing salt and fat through experience, not precision. This dish is a staple on tables set for sharing, reflecting the communal spirit of Pakistani dining without the need for formal occasions.

Each bite delivers a harmonious blend of tender ground beef and finely diced onions, encased in a crisp, golden pastry shell. The seasoning, a simple mix of fine sea salt and black pepper, allows the quality of the ingredients to shine. Perfectly fried, these bites offer a satisfying crunch that gives way to a savory, juicy filling.

Ingredients

  • 300 gground beef
  • 1onion
  • 12pastry wrappers
  • for fryingoil
  • to tastefine sea salt and black pepper

Method

  1. Begin by finely chopping 1 onion. This will ensure that it blends well with the ground beef and cooks evenly, providing a balanced flavor throughout the filling.
  2. In a medium-sized skillet, heat a generous amount of frying oil over medium heat. Once the oil shimmers, add the chopped onion and sauté until it turns translucent and begins to caramelize slightly, releasing a sweet aroma.
  3. Add 300 g of ground beef to the skillet with the onions. Use a wooden spoon to break the meat into small pieces, ensuring it cooks evenly. Cook until the beef turns brown and any liquid released has evaporated, which will concentrate the flavors.
  4. Season the beef mixture with fine sea salt and black pepper to taste. Stir well to combine, allowing the spices to meld with the beef and onion mixture. Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary, ensuring the filling is flavorful.
  5. Lay out 12 pastry wrappers on a clean surface. Place a spoonful of the beef mixture in the center of each wrapper. Fold the wrappers over the filling to form a triangle or rectangle, pressing the edges firmly to seal and prevent the filling from escaping during cooking.
  6. In a large frying pan, heat more frying oil over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the sealed pastry bites in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until the pastry is golden brown and crisp, turning once to cook evenly on both sides.
  7. Remove the cooked pastry bites from the pan and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. This will keep them crisp and not greasy.
  8. Finish by sprinkling a little more fine sea salt over the hot pastry bites for an extra touch of flavor. Serve immediately while they are still warm and crispy, perfect for sharing around the table.
