The rich filling, seasoned with fine sea salt and black pepper, is enveloped in a golden pastry, creating a delightful contrast of textures. Enjoy them warm, savoring the simple yet profound flavors that bring people together around the table.

Ingredients

  • 300 gground beef
  • 1onion
  • 12pastry wrappers
  • for fryingoil
  • to tastefine sea salt and black pepper

Method

  1. Begin by finely chopping 1 onion. This will ensure even cooking and a balanced flavor in each bite. Set the chopped onion aside.
  2. In a medium-sized skillet, heat enough oil to generously coat the bottom over medium-high heat. Once the oil shimmers, add the chopped onion. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent and soft, releasing a sweet aroma, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add 300 g of ground beef to the skillet with the onions. Use a wooden spoon to break the beef into small pieces, ensuring it cooks evenly. Cook until the beef is browned and no longer pink, which will take on a rich, savory smell.
  4. Season the beef and onion mixture with fine sea salt and black pepper to taste. Stir well to combine, allowing the seasoning to meld with the meat. Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary, ensuring a balanced flavor.
  5. Lay out 12 pastry wrappers on a clean surface. Place a spoonful of the beef mixture in the center of each wrapper, being careful not to overfill. Fold the wrappers over the filling, sealing the edges by pressing them together firmly.
  6. In a clean skillet, heat more oil over medium heat until it shimmers. Carefully add the filled pastry bites, ensuring they do not touch. Fry until the wrappers are golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally to cook evenly on all sides.
  7. Once the pastry bites are golden and crisp, remove them from the skillet and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Finish with a light sprinkle of fine sea salt to enhance the flavors.
  8. Serve the Vietnamese Meat Pastry Bites immediately while they are hot and crispy, perfect for sharing around the table.
