American Yogurt Drink 2

American Yogurt Drink 2 is a staple at many home tables across the United States, reflecting the casual yet deliberate approach of family cooking. While it may not be tied to a specific holiday or celebration, it's a refreshing companion to any meal, especially during the warm summer months. This recipe captures the essence of how American families have embraced yogurt in their culinary repertoire, making it a go-to refreshment when the temperatures rise.

The drink itself is a cooling, creamy blend, with yogurt lending a subtle tanginess that pairs beautifully with a touch of sea salt. It’s a simple concoction, yet the generous use of fat and careful salting showcase the American knack for balancing flavor and texture. Served ice-cold, it’s an invigorating treat that complements a variety of dishes or stands proudly on its own as a thirst-quencher.

Ingredients

  • 400 gyogurt
  • 300 mlcold water
  • 1/2 tspfine sea salt
  • as neededice

Method

  1. Begin by ensuring your yogurt is chilled. If it isn't already cold, place the 400 g of yogurt in the refrigerator for at least an hour. This step is crucial as it enhances the refreshing quality of the drink.
  2. Once the yogurt is chilled, measure out 300 ml of cold water. The water should be as cold as possible to maintain the drink's refreshing nature. Use a measuring jug to ensure accuracy, as the balance of yogurt to water is key to achieving the traditional taste.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chilled yogurt with the cold water. Use a whisk to gently mix the two ingredients together. Whisking should be done slowly to incorporate the yogurt and water without losing the creamy texture and to prevent the formation of bubbles.
  4. Add 1/2 teaspoon of fine sea salt to the mixture. Stir gently to dissolve the salt completely, ensuring it is evenly distributed throughout the drink. The salt enhances the flavors, giving the drink its distinctive taste.
  5. Prepare your serving glasses by adding a few ice cubes to each. This not only keeps the drink cold but also adds a refreshing element as the ice slowly melts.
  6. Pour the yogurt drink into the prepared glasses, filling them almost to the brim. Serve immediately to enjoy the drink at its optimal temperature and texture. The traditional glassware adds to the authenticity and enjoyment of the drink.
