Caribbean Fruit Drink 2

Caribbean Fruit Drink 2 is a staple at home tables across the islands, where it is lovingly prepared with a casual flair that only a seasoned Caribbean cook can master. This refreshing beverage is a regular fixture at family meals, especially during the warm months when its cooling properties are most appreciated. Made with just a handful of simple ingredients, it embodies the essence of island hospitality—unpretentious and welcoming.

Expect a vibrant citrus burst from the fresh lemons or oranges, balanced with just the right amount of sweetness from the sugar. The water acts as a gentle canvas, allowing the flavors to mingle and refresh with each sip. This drink is best served chilled, with plenty of ice to keep it cool under the Caribbean sun.

Ingredients

  • 4lemons or oranges
  • 100 gsugar
  • 1 Lwater
  • as neededice

Method

  1. Begin by preparing the citrus fruits. If using lemons, roll them firmly on the countertop to release their juices before slicing them in half. If using oranges, peel them and separate the segments. This will ensure maximum juice extraction and a vibrant citrus flavor in your drink.
  2. Juice the lemons or oranges into a large bowl or pitcher, ensuring no seeds fall in. You should aim to collect as much juice as possible from the 4 fruits, which will be the foundation of your drink's refreshing taste. Use a fine mesh strainer if necessary to catch any pulp or seeds.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine 100 g of sugar with 1 L of water. Stir gently over medium heat until the sugar is completely dissolved. This creates a simple syrup that will sweeten the drink without any graininess, enhancing the natural citrus flavors.
  4. Once the sugar has dissolved, remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the syrup to cool to room temperature. Cooling the syrup is crucial as it prevents the ice from melting too quickly when combined, maintaining the drink's refreshing chill.
  5. Pour the cooled simple syrup into the bowl or pitcher with the citrus juice. Stir gently to combine, ensuring the flavors meld without losing the aromatic notes of the citrus.
  6. Fill your serving glasses with ice as needed. Pour the Caribbean Fruit Drink 2 over the ice, allowing the cold to enhance the refreshing qualities of the drink.
  7. Serve immediately in traditional glassware, if available, to capture the authentic Caribbean experience. The drink should be vibrant in color and bursting with citrus aroma, ready to be shared and enjoyed.
