Caribbean Yogurt Drink

Caribbean Yogurt Drink is a cherished refreshment across the islands, often enjoyed during the warm afternoons when the sun sits high. It's a staple at home tables, lovingly prepared by those who know how to balance the salt by intuition and aren't shy with the richness of yogurt. This version captures the essence of Caribbean hospitality, designed for sharing and savoring.

When you take a sip, expect a smooth, cooling sensation that mirrors the gentle sway of palm trees in the breeze. The yogurt provides a creamy texture, while a hint of salt awakens the palate, making it an ideal antidote to the tropical heat. Serve it chilled with a few ice cubes to keep the temperature just right.

Ingredients

  • 400 gyogurt
  • 300 mlcold water
  • 1/2 tspfine sea salt
  • as neededice

Method

  1. Start by ensuring that the yogurt is well-chilled. Place 400 g of yogurt in the refrigerator for at least an hour before you begin. This will ensure that the drink is refreshing and cool, which is essential for the traditional Caribbean experience.
  2. Once the yogurt is chilled, measure 300 ml of cold water. It's important to use cold water to maintain the drink's refreshing quality. Pour the cold water into a large mixing bowl or a pitcher that can hold at least 1 liter.
  3. Add 1/2 teaspoon of fine sea salt to the water. The salt enhances the flavor of the yogurt and balances the drink, so measure carefully to stay true to the traditional taste.
  4. Gently pour the chilled yogurt into the bowl or pitcher with the salted water. Use a whisk or a large spoon to combine the ingredients. Stir slowly and gently to avoid losing the yogurt's creamy texture and to preserve the delicate aromas.
  5. Taste the mixture to ensure the salt is balanced. If needed, adjust by adding a tiny pinch more salt, but be cautious not to overpower the drink.
  6. Once the yogurt and water are well combined, prepare to serve the drink immediately. Fill each glass with a few ice cubes to keep the drink cold as it is enjoyed.
  7. Pour the Caribbean Yogurt Drink into the glasses over the ice cubes. Use traditional glassware if available to enhance the authentic experience. Serve immediately while the drink is still chilled and refreshing.
