Filipino Fruit Drink 2

Filipino Fruit Drink 2 finds its origins in the everyday kitchens of Filipino homes, where it is lovingly concocted for comforting family meals or leisurely afternoons. This drink is not tied to any grand celebration but rather to the simple joys of daily life, capturing the essence of Filipino hospitality in a glass. It's a staple, especially during the warm months, offering a refreshing reprieve from the tropical heat.

Expect a harmonious blend of bright citrus notes from lemons or oranges, tempered with the sweetness of sugar, creating a balanced and invigorating beverage. The inclusion of ice ensures each sip is cool and refreshing, making it a delightful companion for any meal or a standalone refreshment.

Ingredients

  • 4lemons or oranges
  • 100 gsugar
  • 1 Lwater
  • as neededice

Method

  1. Begin by preparing the citrus fruits. If using lemons, roll each lemon on the countertop with your palm to loosen the juices inside. Cut them in half and squeeze the juice into a bowl, ensuring you remove any seeds. If using oranges, follow the same process but note that oranges will yield a sweeter, less tart juice.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine 100 g of sugar with 1 L of water. Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir gently until the sugar is fully dissolved. The mixture should become clear, indicating that the sugar has melted completely into the water.
  3. Once the sugar has dissolved, remove the saucepan from the heat. Allow the sugar water to cool slightly, then add the freshly squeezed citrus juice. Stir gently to combine, ensuring the juice is evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a large pitcher and place it in the refrigerator to chill. Allow it to cool for at least an hour, or until it is thoroughly chilled. This chilling process is crucial for melding the flavors and achieving the refreshing taste characteristic of Filipino Fruit Drink 2.
  5. When ready to serve, fill each glass with ice as needed. Pour the chilled fruit drink over the ice, filling each glass to the brim. Serve immediately, using traditional glassware to enhance the experience and authenticity of this Filipino home beverage.
