Filipino Fruit Drink

Filipino Fruit Drink is a refreshing concoction that captures the essence of Filipino home cooking. It's a simple blend of citrus fruits, sugar, and water, crafted with a generous hand and a knack for balancing flavors. This drink is a staple at Filipino tables, where it's served to cool down on hot days or to accompany a hearty meal.

The taste is a harmonious mix of sweet and tangy, with the citrus providing a bright, invigorating kick. It's a drink that embodies the casual, communal spirit of Filipino dining, where dishes are made with love and shared with family and friends. Enjoy it over ice for a truly refreshing experience.

Ingredients

  • 4lemons or oranges
  • 100 gsugar
  • 1 Lwater
  • as neededice

Method

  1. Begin by juicing the 4 lemons or oranges. Cut each fruit in half and use a manual juicer to extract the juice, ensuring you catch any seeds. You should aim for approximately 200 ml of juice. This fresh juice will be the base of your Filipino Fruit Drink, providing the essential citrus flavor.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine 100 g of sugar with 1 L of water. Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir gently until the sugar completely dissolves. This creates a simple syrup that will sweeten the drink without leaving any gritty texture.
  3. Once the sugar has dissolved, remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool slightly. Add the freshly squeezed lemon or orange juice to the syrup, stirring gently to combine. This step ensures that the citrus aroma is preserved, giving the drink its refreshing character.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a pitcher and place it in the refrigerator to chill for at least 2 hours. Chilling allows the flavors to meld together, resulting in a more harmonious taste. The drink should be cold to the touch when ready to serve.
  5. When ready to serve, fill each glass with ice as needed. Pour the chilled Filipino Fruit Drink over the ice, ensuring each glass receives an equal amount of liquid. This immediate serving step ensures the drink is enjoyed at its peak freshness.
  6. Serve the drink in traditional glassware, if available, to enhance the cultural experience. The vibrant color and refreshing aroma should invite your guests to enjoy this classic Filipino refreshment.
