Filipino Yogurt Drink 2

Filipino Yogurt Drink 2 is a refreshing staple that graces home tables across the Philippines, particularly during the warm months when something cool and revitalizing is in order. This version captures the essence of simplicity and comfort in Filipino homes, where cooks rely on intuition rather than strict measurements, with salt judged by hand and a generous spirit guiding every pour.

The drink is a perfect blend of creamy yogurt, a hint of salt, and the crispness of cold water, all brought together with a final touch of ice. It offers a balanced taste that is both tangy and soothing, making it an ideal accompaniment to leisurely afternoons or to cleanse the palate between hearty meals.

Ingredients

  • 400 gyogurt
  • 300 mlcold water
  • 1/2 tspfine sea salt
  • as neededice

Method

  1. Start by chilling the yogurt. Place 400 g of yogurt in the refrigerator for at least an hour before you begin preparing the drink. This ensures that the yogurt is cold, which is essential for the refreshing quality of the drink.
  2. Once the yogurt is chilled, measure 300 ml of cold water. It's important to use cold water to maintain the drink's refreshing temperature. Pour the cold water into a medium-sized mixing bowl.
  3. Add the chilled yogurt to the bowl with the cold water. Use a whisk to gently combine the yogurt and water. Stir slowly and steadily to ensure the mixture is smooth and fully integrated without losing the creamy texture.
  4. Measure 1/2 tsp of fine sea salt and sprinkle it into the yogurt mixture. Stir gently until the salt is completely dissolved. The salt enhances the flavor of the yogurt, giving the drink a subtle savory note that is characteristic of this Filipino beverage.
  5. Prepare a serving pitcher by filling it with ice. The ice will keep the drink cold and refreshing as you serve it. Pour the yogurt mixture over the ice in the pitcher, allowing it to chill further.
  6. Serve the Filipino Yogurt Drink 2 immediately in traditional glassware. The drink should be creamy and smooth, with a slight tang from the yogurt and a hint of saltiness. Enjoy it as a refreshing accompaniment to a meal or as a standalone treat.
