Serves 4 to 6 Beverage vegan, Beverages

Indian Spiced Tea 2

Indian Spiced Tea 2 is a cherished staple in home kitchens across India, crafted with an instinctive touch that balances the earthy robustness of tea leaves with a symphony of spices. This home-style version captures the essence of everyday comfort, often enjoyed during leisurely afternoons or as a warming companion on cooler evenings.

The tea delivers a rich, aromatic experience, each sip revealing layers of spice that's perfectly offset by just the right hint of sweetness. The generous use of fat adds a velvety texture, making it both soothing and invigorating. This is a tea meant to be savored slowly, a blend that transforms ordinary moments into something delightfully memorable.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsptea leaves
  • 500 mlwater
  • to tastespices
  • to tastesugar

Method

  1. Start by bringing 500 ml of water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Use a pan with a wide base to allow the water to heat evenly and quickly. Once you see a rolling boil, reduce the heat to medium to maintain a gentle simmer.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons of tea leaves to the simmering water. Stir gently to ensure the leaves are fully submerged and begin to release their flavors. You should notice the water turning a rich amber color, which indicates the tea is steeping properly.
  3. Introduce your choice of spices to the simmering tea. Common options include cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, or ginger. Add these spices according to your taste preference, but start with a small amount to avoid overpowering the tea. Stir gently to blend the flavors.
  4. Add sugar to taste, stirring until it dissolves completely. The sugar should balance the bitterness of the tea and the warmth of the spices. Taste the tea to ensure the sweetness is to your liking, adjusting if necessary.
  5. Once the tea has reached your preferred flavor profile, remove the saucepan from the heat. Allow the tea to sit for a minute to let the flavors meld together. This brief resting period enhances the aromatic qualities of the spices.
  6. Strain the tea into a teapot or directly into traditional Indian glassware, such as small glasses or cups. This step removes the tea leaves and spices, leaving you with a smooth, spiced tea ready for serving.
  7. Serve the Indian Spiced Tea 2 immediately while it's hot. Enjoy it with family or friends, as is customary in Indian homes, to appreciate the warmth and comfort of this traditional beverage.
