Indonesian Spiced Tea 2

Indonesian Spiced Tea 2 captures the essence of an Indonesian family kitchen, where the warmth of home is brewed into each cup. This is the version found on household tables, crafted with a generous hand and a heart for sharing. In the afternoon, when the sun dips gently over the horizon, families gather around these steaming cups, savoring the quiet moments of the day.

The tea is a fragrant blend, its base enriched with tea leaves steeped to perfection, harmoniously balanced by sugar and a medley of spices. It fills the mouth with a comforting warmth, the spices unfolding with each sip, a gentle reminder of home and tradition.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsptea leaves
  • 500 mlwater
  • to tastespices
  • to tastesugar

Method

  1. Start by bringing 500 ml of water to a gentle boil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. The water should be just bubbling, not a rolling boil, to ensure it extracts the flavors without becoming bitter.
  2. Once the water is boiling, add 2 tablespoons of tea leaves to the saucepan. Stir gently to ensure the leaves are fully submerged, allowing them to steep and release their rich color and aroma.
  3. Add spices to taste, such as cinnamon, cloves, or cardamom, directly into the saucepan. Stir gently to combine, ensuring the spices are evenly distributed and begin to infuse their flavors into the tea.
  4. Allow the mixture to simmer gently for about 3 to 5 minutes. You will notice the tea turning a deep, rich color and the aroma of the spices becoming more pronounced.
  5. Taste the tea and add sugar to your preference, stirring until it dissolves completely. The sweetness should balance the spice, creating a harmonious flavor profile.
  6. Once the desired flavor is achieved, strain the tea into a teapot or directly into serving glasses to remove the tea leaves and spices. This ensures a smooth drinking experience.
  7. Serve the Indonesian Spiced Tea 2 immediately in traditional glassware, if available, to enhance the cultural experience. The tea should be warm, aromatic, and perfectly balanced in sweetness and spice.
