Lebanese Fruit Drink 2

Lebanese Fruit Drink 2 is a refreshing beverage enjoyed at Lebanese home tables, where it's crafted with a generous hand for salt and fat, embodying the essence of communal dining. This version captures the authentic approach of a Lebanese family cook, bringing the vibrant flavors of citrus and sweetness to life.

The drink is a simple yet delightful combination of lemons or oranges, sugar, and water, served chilled with ice. It's a staple in Lebanese households, offering a bright and invigorating taste that complements any meal, perfect for sharing with family and friends.

Ingredients

  • 4lemons or oranges
  • 100 gsugar
  • 1 Lwater
  • as neededice

Method

  1. Begin by preparing the citrus fruits. Roll 4 lemons or oranges on the countertop with your palm to loosen the juices inside. Cut each fruit in half and use a citrus juicer to extract the juice, ensuring no seeds fall into the juice. You should have about 250 ml of fresh juice.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine 100 g of sugar with 1 L of water. Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir gently until the sugar is completely dissolved. The mixture should become clear, indicating that the sugar has fully integrated into the water.
  3. Once the sugar has dissolved, remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly. This step is crucial as adding the citrus juice to hot syrup can alter the flavor profile. Let it sit until it reaches room temperature, which will take about 10 minutes.
  4. Once the sugar-water mixture is at room temperature, pour in the freshly squeezed citrus juice. Stir gently to combine, ensuring the juice is evenly distributed throughout the mixture. This gentle stirring helps retain the fresh aroma of the citrus.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a large pitcher and chill it in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour. This chilling process allows the flavors to meld together beautifully, creating a refreshing and balanced drink.
  6. When ready to serve, fill traditional Lebanese glassware with ice cubes. Pour the chilled fruit drink over the ice, filling each glass to the brim. Serve immediately to enjoy the refreshing and vibrant flavors of the Lebanese Fruit Drink 2.
