Serves 4 to 6 Beverage vegan, Beverages

Pakistani Spiced Tea 2

Pakistani Spiced Tea 2 is a staple across bustling cities like Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and Islamabad, where it graces tables with its inviting aroma. This version captures the essence of a family kitchen, where the art of brewing is passed down through generations. With salt judged by hand and fat used generously, it reflects the warmth of a Pakistani home, where the tea is not just a beverage but an occasion for bonding.

The taste is a harmonious blend of robust tea leaves, spices, and just the right hint of sweetness, creating a rich and comforting experience. Each sip offers a warming embrace, making it an ideal companion for a leisurely afternoon or a quiet evening, with or without company.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsptea leaves
  • 500 mlwater
  • to tastespices
  • to tastesugar

Method

  1. Start by bringing 500 ml of water to a boil in a medium-sized saucepan. Use a pan with a lid to help retain the heat and allow the flavors to infuse more effectively. Once the water reaches a rolling boil, reduce the heat to medium to maintain a gentle simmer.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons of tea leaves to the simmering water. Stir gently to ensure the leaves are fully submerged and begin to release their flavor. You should notice the water starting to take on a rich, dark color as the tea infuses.
  3. Introduce your choice of spices to the simmering tea. Common options include cardamom pods, cloves, and cinnamon sticks, but you can adjust to taste. Crush the spices slightly before adding them to release their essential oils, enhancing the aroma and depth of flavor.
  4. Add sugar to taste, stirring until it dissolves completely. The sugar should balance the bitterness of the tea and the warmth of the spices, creating a harmonious blend. Taste the tea and adjust the sugar if necessary, ensuring it complements the spices without overpowering them.
  5. Allow the tea to simmer for an additional 5-7 minutes, letting the flavors meld together. You'll know it's ready when the aroma is robust and the color is a deep, inviting brown. The spices should be fragrant, and the tea should have a slightly thicker consistency.
  6. Once the tea is ready, strain it into a teapot or directly into serving cups to remove the tea leaves and spices. Use a fine mesh strainer to catch all the solid particles, ensuring a smooth and clear tea.
  7. Serve the Pakistani Spiced Tea 2 immediately in traditional glassware or small cups. The tea should be hot, aromatic, and inviting, perfect for sharing with family and friends around the table. Enjoy the warm, spiced flavors that are characteristic of this beloved Pakistani beverage.
