Persian Spiced Tea 2

Persian Spiced Tea 2 is a cherished staple at Persian home tables, especially enjoyed during the cooler months when warmth is a welcome guest. This version captures the essence of a home-cooked brew, crafted with the intuitive touch of a family cook. Each cup is a reflection of shared traditions, where the tea is seasoned by hand and the ingredients are adjusted to personal taste, embodying the spirit of togetherness without the need for occasion.

The tea is an aromatic blend that balances the robustness of tea leaves with spices and sweetness, creating a comforting warmth that envelops the senses. The infusion is both invigorating and soothing, offering an experience that is both personal and shared, much like the Persian table it belongs to. Each sip carries the subtle complexity of spices, inviting you to pause and savor the moment.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsptea leaves
  • 500 mlwater
  • to tastespices
  • to tastesugar

Method

  1. Start by bringing 500 ml of water to a gentle boil in a medium saucepan. Use a saucepan with a lid to help retain the heat and aromas. As the water begins to boil, you'll notice small bubbles forming and steam rising, which is your cue to proceed.
  2. Once the water is boiling, add 2 tablespoons of tea leaves to the saucepan. Stir gently with a spoon to ensure the leaves are fully submerged. This will help release the flavors and aromas of the tea leaves into the water.
  3. Now, add spices to taste. Traditional choices might include cardamom, cinnamon, or cloves. Crush them slightly before adding to release their oils. Stir gently to combine, ensuring the spices are evenly distributed throughout the tea.
  4. Allow the tea to simmer on low heat for about 5 minutes. During this time, the tea will darken and the aroma of the spices will become more pronounced. The tea should have a rich, deep color and a fragrant aroma, indicating it's ready for the next step.
  5. Taste the tea and add sugar to your preference, stirring until it dissolves completely. The sugar should balance the spices without overpowering them, creating a harmonious blend of flavors.
  6. Once the sugar is fully dissolved and the tea has reached your desired sweetness, remove the saucepan from the heat. Let it sit for a minute to allow the flavors to meld together.
  7. Strain the tea into a teapot or directly into traditional Persian glassware, ensuring no tea leaves or spices remain in the liquid. Serve immediately while the tea is hot, allowing guests to enjoy the full aromatic experience.
