Persian Spiced Tea

Persian Spiced Tea is a comforting staple at Persian home tables, cherished for its warming blend of spices. Unlike the elaborate versions served at festive gatherings, this home-style tea is a straightforward affair, brewed with care and a generous touch. It’s a familiar presence on afternoons shared with family, where the simplicity of its preparation matches the ease of its enjoyment.

The tea offers a symphony of aromas, with a balance of rich, earthy tea leaves and the gentle warmth of spices. Sweetened to taste, it envelops you in a cozy embrace, leaving a lingering hint of exotic flavors. Each sip is a reminder of home, where every cup is an invitation to pause and savor life's simple pleasures.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsptea leaves
  • 500 mlwater
  • to tastespices
  • to tastesugar

Method

  1. Start by bringing 500 ml of water to a gentle boil in a small saucepan. Use medium heat to ensure the water reaches a rolling boil without evaporating too quickly. This will be the base for your Persian Spiced Tea.
  2. Once the water is boiling, add 2 tablespoons of tea leaves directly into the saucepan. Stir gently with a spoon to ensure the leaves are fully submerged. This step allows the tea leaves to release their full flavor and aroma.
  3. Add spices to taste, such as cardamom, cinnamon, or cloves, directly into the saucepan. Stir gently to combine. The spices should infuse into the tea, creating a fragrant and aromatic brew.
  4. Allow the tea to simmer on low heat for about 5 minutes. You'll know it's ready when the color deepens to a rich amber and the aroma of the spices becomes pronounced.
  5. Taste the tea and add sugar to your preference, stirring until it dissolves completely. The sweetness should balance the spice, creating a harmonious flavor profile.
  6. Once the sugar is dissolved, strain the tea into a teapot or directly into traditional Persian glassware. This will remove the tea leaves and spices, leaving a clear, spiced tea ready for serving.
  7. Serve the Persian Spiced Tea immediately while it's hot, using traditional glassware if available. This enhances the experience and presentation, reflecting the warmth and hospitality of Persian home cooking.
