Colombian Nut Sweet

Colombian Nut Sweet, known locally as "Dulce de Nueces," finds its place in the heart of Colombian homes, often appearing on tables during festive gatherings and family celebrations. This traditional treat captures the essence of Colombia's rich culinary culture, where hearty ingredients and a generous spirit come together. Passed down through generations, this recipe is a staple for those who cherish the warmth of sharing homemade delights with loved ones.

The sweetness of caramelized sugar melds seamlessly with the buttery richness, enveloping crunchy nuts in a soft, cake-like embrace. Each bite offers a symphony of textures, from the slight crispness of the exterior to the tender, nutty interior. It's a sweet indulgence that invites you to savor the moment, echoing the warmth of a Colombian home.

Ingredients

  • 200 gnuts — chopped
  • 150 gsugar
  • 100 gbutter
  • 2eggs
  • 100 gflour

Method

  1. Begin by taking 2 eggs and 100 g of butter out of the refrigerator. Allow them to come to room temperature, which ensures that the butter will cream smoothly and the eggs will mix evenly into the batter. This step is crucial for achieving the right texture in the final product.
  2. In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the 100 g of butter gently. Once melted, add 150 g of sugar to the butter, stirring continuously with a wooden spoon until the sugar dissolves completely. The mixture should become smooth and glossy, indicating that the sugar is fully integrated.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and let it cool slightly. Crack the 2 room-temperature eggs into a separate bowl and beat them lightly. Gradually add the beaten eggs to the butter-sugar mixture, stirring constantly to prevent the eggs from cooking. The mixture should be smooth and uniform.
  4. Sift 100 g of flour into the saucepan, stirring gently to combine. Ensure there are no lumps in the batter by mixing until the flour is fully incorporated. The batter should be thick and smooth, with a consistency that holds its shape when lifted with a spoon.
  5. Add 200 g of nuts to the batter, folding them in gently with a spatula. Ensure that the nuts are evenly distributed throughout the mixture. The batter should be dense, with nuts visible throughout, providing texture and flavor to the sweet.
  6. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Line a baking dish with parchment paper and pour the batter into the dish, spreading it evenly with a spatula. Bake in the preheated oven until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, indicating that the sweet is fully cooked.
  7. Remove the Colombian Nut Sweet from the oven and let it cool in the baking dish for about 10 minutes. This allows the sweet to firm up slightly, making it easier to slice. Serve warm or at room temperature, allowing the flavors to fully develop and the texture to be at its best.
