Filipino Nut Sweet

Filipino Nut Sweet, a beloved treat at family gatherings, resonates with the warmth of home kitchens across the Philippines. Crafted with care, this dessert often graces tables during festive seasons and special occasions, a sweet nod to the communal spirit of sharing. Each family may have its own twist, but the heart of the recipe remains a timeless celebration of simple, satisfying flavors.

The rich, buttery blend of nuts and sugar creates a delightful crunch, enveloping your senses with its golden hue and inviting aroma. The eggs and flour provide a subtle, tender base, allowing the nuts to shine through with every bite. This sweet treat is best enjoyed with laughter around the table, a true reflection of its generous origins.

Ingredients

  • 200 gnuts — chopped
  • 150 gsugar
  • 100 gbutter
  • 2eggs
  • 100 gflour

Method

  1. Begin by taking the 100 g of butter and 2 eggs out of the refrigerator to bring them to room temperature. This ensures that the butter will cream smoothly and the eggs will blend seamlessly into the mixture, providing a uniform texture.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the 100 g of butter over low heat. Once melted, add 150 g of sugar and stir continuously until the sugar is fully dissolved, creating a smooth syrup. This step is crucial to prevent the sugar from crystallizing and to achieve a glossy finish.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the syrup to cool slightly. In a separate bowl, beat the 2 room-temperature eggs until they are light and frothy. Gradually add the eggs to the cooled syrup, stirring constantly to prevent the eggs from curdling.
  4. Once the eggs are fully incorporated, sift 100 g of flour into the mixture, stirring gently until a smooth batter forms. The batter should be thick but pourable, with no lumps of flour remaining.
  5. Fold in 200 g of nuts, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the batter. This will provide a consistent nutty flavor and texture in every bite.
  6. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Pour the batter into a greased baking dish, spreading it evenly with a spatula. Bake in the preheated oven until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, indicating the mixture has set.
  7. Once baked, remove the dish from the oven and allow it to cool slightly before serving. This will allow the flavors to meld and the texture to firm up, making it easier to cut and serve. Enjoy the Filipino Nut Sweet warm or at room temperature, perfect for sharing with family and friends.
