Lebanese Fruit Compote 2

Lebanese Fruit Compote 2 is a staple on many home tables, capturing the essence of Lebanese family cooking. This version, passed down through generations, is a reflection of the Lebanese approach to cooking with intuition and generosity. It's the kind of dish that finds its place at any casual gathering, where salt is pinched with care, and the richness of fruit is celebrated.

Expect a delightful balance of sweetness and warmth, as the sugar melds with cinnamon to create a comforting embrace around the seasonal fruit. Each bite is a journey through tender textures and aromatic notes, inviting you to savor the simplicity and tradition of a Lebanese kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 500 gseasonal fruit
  • 150 gsugar
  • 200 mlwater
  • 1 stickcinnamon

Method

  1. Start by selecting 500 g of seasonal fruit. Choose a mix of fruits like apples, pears, or plums, ensuring they are ripe but firm. Peel and core the fruits, then cut them into uniform bite-sized pieces. This ensures even cooking and a pleasing texture in the compote.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine 150 g of sugar with 200 ml of water. Add 1 stick of cinnamon to the mixture. Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir gently until the sugar dissolves completely, creating a simple syrup. The cinnamon will infuse its aroma into the syrup, enhancing the flavor of the fruit.
  3. Once the syrup is ready, add the prepared fruit pieces to the saucepan. Stir gently to coat the fruit with the syrup, ensuring even distribution. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, adjusting the heat if necessary to maintain a low simmer. This slow cooking process allows the fruit to soften without breaking apart.
  4. Continue to cook the fruit in the syrup, stirring occasionally. You'll know the compote is ready when the fruit is tender and easily pierced with a fork but still holds its shape. The syrup should be slightly thickened and fragrant with the scent of cinnamon.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the compote cool slightly. The cooling process will allow the flavors to meld further. Once cooled to room temperature, transfer the compote to a serving dish.
  6. Finish the compote by removing the cinnamon stick and discarding it. Serve the Lebanese Fruit Compote 2 at room temperature, allowing the natural sweetness and spiced aroma to shine. It's perfect for sharing at the table, embodying the warmth and hospitality of Lebanese home cooking.
