Lebanese Nut Sweet 2

Lebanese Nut Sweet 2 carries the warmth of home kitchens, where recipes are passed down through generations rather than through written words. This dish is a staple on tables where sharing is second nature, often appearing as an unassuming delight during family gatherings. It's the kind of treat that sneaks into casual afternoons or follows a hearty meal, embodying the generous spirit of Lebanese hospitality with its simple yet indulgent ingredients.

The result is a buttery, nutty delight that strikes a perfect balance between sweet and savory. The nuts bring a satisfying crunch, while the sugar and butter meld into a rich, decadent base. Each bite offers a harmonious blend of textures, enhanced by the subtle binding of eggs and flour. This sweet is best enjoyed in the presence of loved ones, inviting smiles and conversation as it is passed around the table.

Ingredients

  • 200 gnuts — chopped
  • 150 gsugar
  • 100 gbutter
  • 2eggs
  • 100 gflour

Method

  1. Begin by taking the 100 g of butter out of the refrigerator and allowing it to come to room temperature. This will make it easier to cream with the sugar later. Also, bring the 2 eggs to room temperature by leaving them out for about 30 minutes; this helps them incorporate smoothly into the batter.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the 100 g of butter over low heat. Once melted, add 150 g of sugar and stir continuously until the sugar dissolves completely and the mixture becomes smooth. This forms the base of your dough and ensures a consistent texture.
  3. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool slightly. Once cooled, beat in the 2 room-temperature eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. This gradual incorporation prevents the eggs from cooking and ensures a smooth, cohesive mixture.
  4. Sift 100 g of flour into the saucepan, stirring gently to combine. The batter should be thick and smooth, with no visible lumps of flour. This step ensures that the flour is evenly distributed, which contributes to the final texture of the sweet.
  5. Fold in 200 g of mixed nuts, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the batter. This step is crucial as it ensures every bite contains a good amount of nuts, providing texture and flavor.
  6. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a baking dish or line it with parchment paper, then pour the batter into the prepared dish, spreading it evenly with a spatula. This ensures even baking and a uniform texture.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, indicating that the sweet is fully cooked. This usually takes about 25-30 minutes, but rely on the visual cue rather than time.
  8. Once baked, remove the dish from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack. The sweet should be firm to the touch and easy to cut into squares. Serve at room temperature, allowing the flavors to meld and the texture to set properly.
