Pakistani Syrup Cake 2

Serves 4 to 6 Dessert vegetarian, Desserts

Pakistani Syrup Cake 2

Pakistani Syrup Cake 2 is a cherished staple across the bustling cities of Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar, and Islamabad. This home-style cake captures the essence of familial hospitality, where cooks measure salt by hand and use butter generously, creating a rich and inviting treat. Passed down through generations, this recipe reflects the heart of a Pakistani household, designed for a communal table and shared with loved ones.

The cake itself is a delightful blend of textures and flavors, with the nutty grain of semolina providing a hearty base, complemented by the sweetness of sugar and the richness of butter. The finished cake is soaked in syrup, ensuring every bite is moist and bursting with flavor, making it a perfect indulgence for any gathering.

Ingredients

  • 200 gsemolina
  • 150 gsugar
  • 100 gbutter
  • 3eggs
  • syrupto soak

Method

  1. Start by bringing your ingredients to room temperature. Take 3 eggs and 100 g of butter out of the refrigerator about 30 minutes before you begin. This will ensure the butter is soft enough to mix easily, and the eggs will incorporate better into the batter, resulting in a smoother texture.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine 200 g of semolina and 150 g of sugar. Stir them together until they are well mixed. This step ensures the sugar is evenly distributed throughout the semolina, which will help create a consistent sweetness in the cake.
  3. Add the softened butter to the semolina and sugar mixture. Using a wooden spoon or an electric mixer on low speed, blend the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. This texture indicates that the butter is evenly distributed, which is crucial for the cake's structure.
  4. Crack the 3 room-temperature eggs into the mixture. Beat them in thoroughly until the batter becomes smooth and slightly thick. The eggs act as a binding agent, and their proper incorporation is key to achieving a cohesive batter.
  5. Transfer the batter into a greased baking dish, spreading it evenly with a spatula. This ensures the cake will bake uniformly. Place the dish in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) and bake until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, indicating the cake is fully cooked.
  6. While the cake is baking, prepare your syrup if not already done. The syrup should be warm but not boiling, as this will help it soak into the cake more effectively without making it soggy.
  7. Once the cake is out of the oven, immediately pour the warm syrup over the top. Allow the cake to absorb the syrup completely, which will take about 10 minutes. The cake should appear moist and slightly glossy on top, indicating it has soaked up the syrup properly.
  8. Let the cake cool to room temperature before serving. This allows the flavors to meld and the texture to set fully. Serve the cake sliced, and enjoy it with family or friends as is traditional at Pakistani tables.
