American Squid Stir-Fry

American Squid Stir-Fry brings a touch of the ocean to family dinners, where it's often celebrated as a quick yet satisfying meal. Crafted in a way that resonates with the spirit of American home cooking, this dish emphasizes a generous use of ingredients and encourages communal dining. Each component is measured by instinct, capturing the essence of how many home cooks across the country bring their meals to life.

Expect a delightful medley of tender squid rings mingling with the robust aroma of garlic and chili. The fresh squeeze of lemon adds a zesty brightness that cuts through the richness of the oil, while a sprinkle of fine sea salt accentuates each flavor. This stir-fry is meant to be shared, inviting everyone to savor its simple yet bold taste.

Ingredients

  • 600 gsquid rings
  • 4 clovesgarlic
  • 2 tbspoil
  • to tastechili
  • lemonjuiced
  • to tastefine sea salt

Method

  1. Start by thoroughly rinsing the 600 g squid rings under cold running water to remove any grit or impurities. Pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel to ensure they sear properly in the pan, which helps in achieving a good texture.
  2. Peel and finely mince 4 cloves of garlic. This will be used to infuse the oil with flavor, creating a fragrant base for the stir-fry.
  3. In a large skillet or wok, heat 2 tbsp of oil over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until the garlic becomes fragrant and just starts to turn golden. This step releases the essential oils from the garlic, enhancing the overall flavor of the dish.
  4. Add the squid rings to the skillet, spreading them out in a single layer to ensure even cooking. Stir them gently and cook for about 2-3 minutes, or until the squid turns opaque and tender. Be careful not to overcook, as this will make the squid rubbery.
  5. Sprinkle chili to taste over the squid, adjusting the amount based on your heat preference. Squeeze the juice of one lemon over the dish, tossing the squid to coat evenly. This adds a bright, tangy flavor that complements the richness of the squid.
  6. Taste the stir-fry and add fine sea salt to taste, ensuring the flavors are balanced. Serve the squid stir-fry immediately while it's hot, making sure to share it around the table as is traditional in American home cooking.
