Caribbean Shrimp Pan 2

Caribbean Shrimp Pan 2 is a staple of home kitchens, capturing the essence of island cooking with its simple yet rich ingredients. This dish is an unpretentious homage to the everyday meals that bring families together around the table, with each cook adding their own touch to this beloved recipe. In Caribbean homes, it’s a dish that might appear any day of the week, whenever shrimp is fresh and the mood calls for a meal that’s both quick and satisfying.

Expect a vibrant medley of flavors where the sweetness of shrimp meets the warmth of garlic and the fresh zing of lemon. A whisper of chili provides just the right amount of heat, while the olive oil binds everything together in a luscious embrace. Seasoned to taste, it's a dish that embraces the cook's intuition, meant to be shared and savored in good company.

Ingredients

  • 600 gshrimp
  • 4 clovesgarlic
  • 80 mlolive oil
  • lemonjuiced
  • to tastechili
  • to tastefine sea salt

Method

  1. Begin by cleaning and drying 600 g of shrimp. Remove the shells and devein the shrimp by making a shallow cut along the back and pulling out the dark vein. Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels to ensure they cook evenly and absorb the flavors well.
  2. In a large skillet, pour 80 ml of olive oil and warm it over medium heat. While the oil heats, finely chop 4 cloves of garlic. Once the oil is shimmering, add the garlic to the pan. Stir gently until the garlic becomes golden and releases its aroma, enhancing the oil's flavor.
  3. Add the prepared shrimp to the skillet, spreading them out in a single layer to ensure even cooking. Increase the heat to medium-high. Cook the shrimp, turning them occasionally, until they turn pink and opaque, which should take about 2-3 minutes. Be careful not to overcook, as they will become tough.
  4. Once the shrimp are cooked, remove the skillet from the heat. Squeeze the juice of one lemon over the shrimp, and add chili and fine sea salt to taste. The lemon juice will brighten the flavors, while the chili adds a hint of heat.
  5. Taste a shrimp to check the seasoning. Adjust the salt and chili if necessary to suit your preference. Serve the Caribbean Shrimp Pan 2 immediately, ensuring the dish is enjoyed while the shrimp are still warm and succulent.
