Colombian Beef Skewers 2

Colombian Beef Skewers 2 finds its roots in the everyday kitchens of Colombian homes, where simplicity meets bold flavors. This dish is typically enjoyed during casual family meals or gatherings with friends, offering a taste of authentic Colombian hospitality. The home-cooked version captures the essence of communal dining, with skewers passed around the table, each piece of beef seasoned with a practiced hand.

Expect each bite to deliver a tender, juicy morsel, kissed with the warmth of cumin and the sweetness of caramelized onions. Generous use of fat ensures a rich, satisfying texture, while a final sprinkle of salt and pepper awakens the palate. Serve these skewers with an array of fresh salads or crispy arepas to complete the experience.

Ingredients

  • 800 gbeef cubes
  • 1onion
  • 2 tbspoil
  • 1 tspcumin
  • as neededskewers
  • to tastefine sea salt and black pepper

Method

  1. Begin by placing the 800 g of beef cubes in a large mixing bowl. Season them generously with fine sea salt, black pepper, and 1 tsp of cumin. Toss the beef cubes well to ensure each piece is evenly coated with the spices. This step is crucial for infusing the meat with flavor.
  2. Peel and finely chop 1 onion. In a large skillet or frying pan, heat 2 tbsp of oil over medium-high heat. Once the oil is shimmering, add the chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent and fragrant, which should take about 3-4 minutes. This will add a sweet and savory base to the dish.
  3. Add the seasoned beef cubes to the pan with the onions. Spread them out in a single layer to ensure even browning. Allow the beef to brown on all sides, turning occasionally with tongs. Look for a deep, rich brown color on the surface of the meat, which indicates the Maillard reaction has occurred, enhancing the flavor.
  4. If you prefer to grill the skewers, thread the browned beef cubes onto skewers, leaving a small gap between each piece for even cooking. Alternatively, if continuing in the pan, reduce the heat to medium and cover the pan with a lid to allow the beef to braise gently. Cook until the beef is tender and juicy, checking occasionally and turning the skewers or stirring the pan as needed.
  5. Once the beef is tender, taste a piece and adjust the seasoning with more salt if necessary. The beef should be flavorful and succulent, with a slight char on the outside. Serve the Colombian Beef Skewers 2 immediately, accompanied by rice, bread, or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
