Indonesian Beef Skewers 2

Indonesian Beef Skewers 2 is a dish that finds its roots in the everyday kitchens of Indonesian homes, where meals are crafted with a touch of intuition and a generous hand. This version captures the essence of home cooking, where salt is measured by feel and the richness of fat is embraced. It's a staple at family tables, where the act of sharing is as important as the flavors themselves.

These skewers deliver a robust taste, with tender beef cubes seasoned with cumin and kissed by the subtle sweetness of onions. The dish is uncomplicated yet deeply satisfying, a reflection of its homey origins, inviting diners to savor each bite with a sense of familiarity and warmth.

Ingredients

  • 800 gbeef cubes
  • 1onion
  • 2 tbspoil
  • 1 tspcumin
  • as neededskewers
  • to tastefine sea salt and black pepper

Method

  1. Begin by seasoning the 800 g of beef cubes generously with fine sea salt, black pepper, and 1 tsp of cumin. Toss the cubes in a large bowl to ensure the spices coat each piece evenly. This step infuses the beef with flavor and prepares it for browning.
  2. Peel and finely chop 1 onion. Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil shimmers, add the chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the seasoned beef cubes to the skillet with the onions. Arrange them in a single layer to ensure even browning. Cook the beef, turning occasionally, until each piece develops a deep brown crust. This browning enhances the flavor and seals in the juices.
  4. Once the beef is well-browned, decide whether to braise or grill the skewers. For braising, add a small amount of water to the skillet, cover, and reduce the heat to low. Simmer gently until the beef is tender, checking occasionally. Alternatively, if grilling, thread the beef onto skewers and cook over medium heat until tender, turning frequently.
  5. Taste a piece of beef to check for seasoning. Adjust with more salt or pepper if needed. The beef should be tender and flavorful, with a rich, savory taste.
  6. Remove the skewers from the heat and let them rest for a few minutes. Serve the Indonesian Beef Skewers 2 with rice, bread, or salad, allowing everyone to share and enjoy the meal together.
