Indonesian Beef Skewers 3

Indonesian Beef Skewers 3 is a cherished staple of home-cooked meals, where the simplicity of ingredients meets the warmth of family gatherings. This version, crafted by hand and shared at the family table, reflects the everyday culinary practices found in Indonesian households. Salt is measured by instinct, and a generous use of fat creates a rich, satisfying flavor profile that is both familiar and comforting.

The skewers present a delightful balance of tender beef, subtly enhanced by cumin and the sweetness of caramelized onions. A touch of fine sea salt and black pepper elevates the dish without overshadowing its essence. These skewers are meant to be savored slowly, a perfect centerpiece for an evening of leisurely dining.

Ingredients

  • 800 gbeef cubes
  • 1onion
  • 2 tbspoil
  • 1 tspcumin
  • as neededskewers
  • to tastefine sea salt and black pepper

Method

  1. Begin by seasoning 800 g of beef cubes with fine sea salt and black pepper to taste. Add 1 tsp of cumin to the beef, ensuring each piece is evenly coated. This step enhances the flavor and helps the spices penetrate the meat.
  2. Peel and finely chop 1 onion. Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil shimmers, add the chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent and fragrant, which should take about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the seasoned beef cubes to the skillet in a single layer, ensuring they are not overcrowded. Brown the beef on all sides, turning occasionally, until each piece is deeply colored. This should take about 8-10 minutes and will develop a rich, savory crust on the meat.
  4. If you prefer grilling, preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Thread the browned beef cubes onto skewers, leaving a little space between each piece for even cooking. Grill the skewers, turning occasionally, until the beef is tender and cooked to your liking. The meat should be juicy and slightly charred on the edges.
  5. Alternatively, if braising, transfer the browned beef cubes to a pot with a lid. Add a splash of water or broth, cover, and let it simmer on low heat until the beef is tender, about 20-30 minutes. The meat should be easy to pierce with a fork and have absorbed the flavors of the spices.
  6. Taste the beef for seasoning and adjust with more salt if necessary. Serve the Indonesian Beef Skewers 3 with steamed rice, warm bread, or a fresh salad, allowing everyone to share and enjoy the meal together.
