Japanese Beef Skewers 2

Japanese Beef Skewers 2 finds its place at the home table, where family cooks embrace the freedom of hand-judged seasoning and a generous approach to fat. This dish is a snapshot of everyday Japanese dining, capturing the unpretentious yet deeply satisfying nature of home-cooked meals. It's a recipe that feels familiar and warm, the kind that doesn't need special occasions to shine.

The skewers offer a delightful contrast between the tender, juicy beef cubes and the slightly caramelized onion, all kissed with the warmth of cumin. The salt and pepper are applied with intuition, creating a balance that feels both deliberate and effortless. This dish invites a relaxed atmosphere, celebrating simplicity and the pure pleasure of shared food.

Ingredients

  • 800 gbeef cubes
  • 1onion
  • 2 tbspoil
  • 1 tspcumin
  • as neededskewers
  • to tastefine sea salt and black pepper

Method

  1. Begin by seasoning the 800 g of beef cubes with fine sea salt and black pepper to taste. Sprinkle 1 tsp of cumin evenly over the meat, ensuring each piece is coated with the spices. This will enhance the flavor and aroma of the beef as it cooks.
  2. Peel and cut the onion into large chunks. Thread the seasoned beef cubes and onion pieces alternately onto skewers. This will allow the flavors of the onion to infuse into the beef during cooking.
  3. Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Once the oil is shimmering, carefully place the skewers in the pan, ensuring they are not overcrowded. Brown the beef on all sides until each piece develops a deep, rich color and a slight crust forms, which should take about 3-4 minutes per side.
  4. Once the beef is browned, reduce the heat to medium. Continue cooking the skewers, turning occasionally, until the beef is tender and cooked through. The beef should feel firm yet springy to the touch, and the onions should be slightly caramelized and tender.
  5. Remove the skewers from the pan and let them rest for a few minutes. Taste a piece of beef and adjust the seasoning with additional salt if needed. Serve the skewers warm, accompanied by rice, bread, or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
