Middle Eastern Stuffed Peppers 2

Middle Eastern Stuffed Peppers 2 brings the comforting essence of home-cooked meals to the table, a dish commonly prepared for family dinners across the region. This version captures the informal yet generous spirit of Middle Eastern kitchens, where the cook's intuition guides the seasoning, and ingredients are selected with a familial warmth in mind. It's a dish that embraces the essence of sharing, often made for evenings where loved ones gather around to enjoy the simple pleasure of a meal together.

Expect a symphony of flavors and textures, where tender bell peppers cradle a savory filling of rice, onions, and herbs. The olive oil lends a rich depth, while the seasoning of fine sea salt and black pepper ties the ingredients together with a subtle, harmonious balance. Best enjoyed warm, this dish is a comforting reminder of home, where each bite feels like a hug on a plate.

Ingredients

  • 6bell peppers
  • 200 grice
  • 1onion
  • 80 mlolive oil
  • herbs — chopped
  • to tastefine sea salt and black pepper

Method

  1. Start by preparing the bell peppers. Cut the tops off and remove the seeds and membranes inside. Rinse them under cold water and set them aside to drain. This ensures the peppers are clean and ready to be stuffed.
  2. In a large skillet or pot, heat 80 ml of olive oil over medium heat. Dice 1 onion finely and add it to the oil. Cook the onion slowly, stirring occasionally, until it becomes translucent and soft, releasing its sweet aroma. This will form the flavorful base of the stuffing.
  3. While the onion is cooking, rinse 200 g of rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and helps achieve a fluffy texture. Once the onion is ready, add the rice to the skillet and stir to coat each grain with the oil and onion mixture.
  4. Add herbs of your choice, such as parsley or mint, to the rice mixture. Season generously with fine sea salt and black pepper to taste. Stir well to combine, allowing the herbs to release their fragrance and infuse the rice with flavor.
  5. Carefully stuff each bell pepper with the rice mixture, pressing down gently to fill them completely. Arrange the stuffed peppers upright in a deep baking dish. Pour a small amount of water into the dish, just enough to cover the bottom, to help steam the peppers as they cook.
  6. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and place it in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F). Bake until the peppers are tender and the rice is cooked through, with a slight bite to it. The peppers should be vibrant and slightly wrinkled, indicating they are done.
  7. Once cooked, remove the foil and let the peppers cool slightly. Taste the rice for seasoning and adjust with more salt if necessary. Serve the stuffed peppers warm, allowing everyone to enjoy the comforting flavors of this Middle Eastern home-cooked dish.
