Persian Nut Pastry 2

Persian Nut Pastry 2 is a beloved staple of Persian home cooking, where the art of baking is passed down through generations. This pastry is typically enjoyed during tea time, offering a sweet and nutty treat that complements the warmth of a freshly brewed cup. It's a dish that captures the essence of home-style Persian baking, with recipes often varying slightly from household to household but always maintaining the comforting flavors that make it a favorite.

With its buttery crust and rich nut filling, this pastry should have a delightful balance of sweetness and earthiness. The texture is both tender and slightly crumbly, with the nuts adding a satisfying crunch. Enjoy it fresh from the oven, allowing the flavors to meld perfectly, creating a moment of quiet enjoyment amidst the bustle of daily life.

Ingredients

  • 250 gflour
  • 150 gnuts — chopped
  • 100 gbutter
  • 100 gsugar
  • 1egg

Method

  1. Begin by bringing the 100 g of butter to room temperature. This will make it easier to incorporate into the dough, ensuring a smooth and even texture. Also, take the egg out of the refrigerator to allow it to come to room temperature, which helps it blend better with other ingredients.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine 250 g of flour and 100 g of sugar. Mix them together thoroughly to ensure an even distribution of sugar throughout the flour. This step is crucial for the sweetness to be consistent in each bite of the pastry.
  3. Add the room temperature butter to the flour and sugar mixture. Using your fingers or a pastry cutter, work the butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. This technique helps create a tender and flaky pastry texture.
  4. Crack the room temperature egg into the bowl and mix it into the dough until it just comes together. Be careful not to overwork the dough, as this can make the pastry tough. The dough should be soft and pliable, not sticky.
  5. Chop 150 g of nuts finely and fold them gently into the dough. The nuts should be evenly distributed throughout the dough, adding flavor and texture to each piece of pastry.
  6. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). While the oven is heating, roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1 cm thickness. Use a cookie cutter or knife to cut the dough into desired shapes, such as squares or circles.
  7. Place the cut-out pastries onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven until the pastries are golden brown and firm to the touch, which should take about 15-20 minutes. The aroma of toasted nuts and buttery pastry will fill your kitchen.
  8. Once baked, remove the pastries from the oven and allow them to cool slightly on the baking sheet. Finish by dusting them with a light coating of sugar while they are still warm, enhancing their sweetness and adding a delicate crunch. Serve the pastries at room temperature, perfect for sharing around the table.
