Brasileiro Tomato Salad 2

Brasileiro Tomato Salad 2 captures the essence of home-style Brazilian cooking, where intuition leads the way. This version is crafted just as it's enjoyed at family tables across Brazil, with salt pinched by experienced fingers and olive oil poured with a generous hand. It's a reflection of everyday culinary life, where recipes are passed down through practice rather than precise measurements.

The salad is a refreshing blend of ripe tomatoes and crisp cucumber, brought to life with a squeeze of lemon and a handful of fresh herbs. Each bite delivers a bright burst of flavor, balanced by the richness of olive oil. It's a simple pleasure meant to be shared, embodying the warmth and hospitality of a Brazilian home.

Ingredients

  • 3tomatoes
  • 1cucumber
  • 80 mlolive oil
  • lemonjuiced
  • herbs — chopped
  • to tastefine sea salt

Method

  1. Start by washing 3 tomatoes and 1 cucumber thoroughly under cold running water to remove any dirt. Pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel. This ensures that no excess water dilutes the flavors of your salad.
  2. Slice the tomatoes into wedges, aiming for uniform pieces so they marinate evenly. Peel the cucumber if desired, then slice it into thin rounds. Keep the slices consistent for an even texture throughout the salad.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the tomato wedges and cucumber slices. This bowl should be large enough to allow for gentle tossing without spilling.
  4. Juice a lemon and measure out 80 ml of olive oil. Add both to the bowl with the vegetables. The lemon juice will provide a bright acidity that balances the richness of the olive oil.
  5. Season the salad with fine sea salt to taste. Start with a small amount, then taste and adjust as needed. The salt will enhance the natural flavors of the tomatoes and cucumber.
  6. Add fresh herbs of your choice, such as parsley or cilantro, finely chopped. These herbs will add a fresh, aromatic element to the salad.
  7. Gently toss the salad using two large spoons, ensuring that the dressing evenly coats each piece. Be careful not to break the tomato wedges, as keeping them intact is key to the salad's presentation.
  8. Transfer the salad to a serving dish and serve immediately with fresh bread. The salad is best enjoyed fresh, with the vibrant flavors and textures complementing each other perfectly.
