Chinese Cucumber Salad 3

Chinese Cucumber Salad 3 finds its roots in the intimate settings of home kitchens across China, where the focus is on the tactile act of cooking rather than rigid recipes. Families gather around the table, sharing dishes that speak of familiarity and comfort. This version honors those traditions, capturing the essence of home-cooked meals where the salt is judged by hand, and the sharing of food is as important as its preparation.

Expect a refreshing crispness from the cucumbers, paired with the creamy tang of yogurt and the aromatic hint of dill. The garlic infuses a subtle warmth, while the fine sea salt ties all elements together, creating a dish that feels both simple and satisfying. This salad is a tribute to the art of balance, enjoyed best when shared.

Ingredients

  • 2cucumbers
  • 200 gyogurt
  • 1 clovegarlic
  • dill — chopped
  • to tastefine sea salt

Method

  1. Start by washing the 2 cucumbers thoroughly under cold running water. Pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel. Slice the cucumbers into thin rounds, about 1/4 inch thick, ensuring even thickness for consistent texture. Place the sliced cucumbers in a large mixing bowl and set them aside.
  2. Mince 1 clove of garlic finely and add it to the bowl with the cucumbers. This will infuse the salad with a mild garlic flavor that complements the freshness of the cucumbers.
  3. In a separate small bowl, combine 200 g of yogurt with a pinch of fine sea salt. Stir until the salt is fully dissolved in the yogurt, creating a smooth, seasoned dressing. Adjust the salt to taste, keeping in mind that the cucumbers will absorb some of the saltiness.
  4. Pour the yogurt dressing over the cucumbers and garlic in the mixing bowl. Add a generous amount of chopped dill, to taste, for a fragrant herbal note. The dill should be fresh and vibrant in color, enhancing the salad's aroma.
  5. Gently toss the cucumbers with the yogurt dressing using a large spoon or your hands. Be careful to keep the cucumber slices intact, as they should remain crisp and not become mushy.
  6. Transfer the dressed cucumber salad to a serving dish. Serve immediately with bread, allowing the cool, creamy salad to contrast with the warm, soft bread. This dish is best enjoyed fresh, as the cucumbers will retain their crunch and the flavors will be at their peak.
