Indian Cucumber Salad 2

Serves 4 to 6 Salad vegetarian, Salads

Indian Cucumber Salad 2

Indian Cucumber Salad 2 is a staple in Indian home kitchens, prepared with intuition and a generous hand. It reflects the casual, yet thoughtful approach of family cooks who know that the best dishes are those shared around a bustling table. This salad is often a cooling accompaniment to spicier dishes, balancing the meal with its refreshing simplicity.

Expect a creamy, tangy bite from the yogurt, accented by the subtle warmth of garlic and the delicate fragrance of dill. The cucumbers offer a crisp, hydrating crunch, while the fine sea salt ties everything together. This dish is best enjoyed fresh, inviting everyone to savor its light and lively character.

Ingredients

  • 2cucumbers
  • 200 gyogurt
  • 1 clovegarlic
  • dill — chopped
  • to tastefine sea salt

Method

  1. Begin by washing and drying 2 cucumbers thoroughly. Using a sharp knife, peel the cucumbers if desired, then slice them into thin, even rounds. Place the cucumber slices in a large mixing bowl and set aside in the refrigerator to keep them cool while you prepare the other ingredients.
  2. In a small bowl, combine 200 g of yogurt with one finely minced clove of garlic. Mix well until the garlic is evenly distributed throughout the yogurt. This will infuse the yogurt with a subtle garlic flavor that complements the freshness of the cucumbers.
  3. Finely chop a handful of fresh dill, about 1-2 tablespoons, and add it to the yogurt mixture. Stir to combine, ensuring the dill is evenly mixed in. The dill will add a fragrant, herbal note to the salad.
  4. Remove the chilled cucumbers from the refrigerator and pour the yogurt mixture over them. Add fine sea salt to taste, starting with a small pinch and adjusting as needed. The salt will help to enhance the flavors of the cucumbers and yogurt.
  5. Gently toss the cucumbers with the yogurt dressing using a large spoon or your hands. Be careful not to break the cucumber slices; they should remain intact and well-coated with the dressing.
  6. Transfer the dressed cucumber salad to a serving dish. Serve immediately with fresh bread, allowing the cool, creamy salad to contrast with the warm, soft bread. This dish is best enjoyed fresh, as the cucumbers will retain their crisp texture.
