Indian Tomato Salad 3

Serves 4 to 6 Salad vegetarian, Salads

Indian Tomato Salad 3

In India, tomato salads are a staple of home-cooked meals, often tossed together spontaneously with what’s on hand. Indian Tomato Salad 3 reflects this spirit, capturing the essence of everyday cooking in Indian households. This recipe, passed down through generations, is not about rigid measurements but about intuition and personal taste, a hallmark of family meals where the emphasis is on sharing and simplicity.

Expect a vibrant mix of juicy tomatoes and crisp cucumber, brought together with a generous splash of olive oil and a squeeze of lemon. The salad is refreshing and bright, with a hint of herbs and a pinch of sea salt that you adjust by hand, making every bite a unique expression of your own palate.

Ingredients

  • 3tomatoes
  • 1cucumber
  • 80 mlolive oil
  • lemonjuiced
  • herbs — chopped
  • to tastefine sea salt

Method

  1. Start by washing 3 tomatoes and 1 cucumber thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt or impurities. Pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel. Slice the tomatoes into thin wedges and the cucumber into half-moon slices, keeping the thickness consistent for even flavor distribution.
  2. Place the sliced tomatoes and cucumber into a large mixing bowl. This will give you enough room to mix the salad without spilling.
  3. In a small bowl, combine 80 ml of olive oil with the juice of one lemon. Whisk them together until they form a smooth emulsion. This mixture will serve as the dressing, adding both richness and a bright acidity to the salad.
  4. Pour the olive oil and lemon dressing over the tomatoes and cucumber in the mixing bowl. Sprinkle fine sea salt to taste, keeping in mind that the salt should enhance the natural flavors of the vegetables without overpowering them.
  5. Add a handful of freshly chopped herbs of your choice, such as cilantro or mint, to the bowl. These herbs will provide a fresh, aromatic element to the salad, complementing the acidity of the lemon.
  6. Using a large spoon or salad tongs, gently toss the salad to ensure the dressing coats each piece evenly. Be careful not to break the tomato wedges, as keeping them intact will maintain the salad's texture and appearance.
  7. Transfer the salad to a serving platter or individual plates. Serve immediately with fresh bread, allowing the vibrant colors and fresh flavors to shine at the table.
