Indonesian Cucumber Salad 2

Indonesian Cucumber Salad 2 is a refreshing staple found on home tables across Indonesia. It's crafted in a way that reflects the intuitive touch of the family cook, where salt is measured by intuition, and yogurt provides a creamy backdrop. This salad is not just a side dish but a center of the shared table, embodying the casual yet attentive approach of Indonesian home cooking.

The salad delivers a cool, creamy texture, with the crispness of fresh cucumbers mingling harmoniously with the tang of yogurt. A hint of garlic adds depth, while dill provides a fragrant finish. Each bite is a balance of subtle flavors, seasoned to perfection with a pinch of fine sea salt, inviting everyone to enjoy its simple, refreshing charm.

Ingredients

  • 2cucumbers
  • 200 gyogurt
  • 1 clovegarlic
  • dill — chopped
  • to tastefine sea salt

Method

  1. Start by peeling the 2 cucumbers, then slice them thinly into rounds, about 1/4 inch thick. This ensures they absorb the dressing well while maintaining a satisfying crunch. Place the slices in a large bowl and set aside.
  2. In a small mixing bowl, combine 200 g of yogurt with a finely minced clove of garlic. Stir in a generous handful of chopped dill, adjusting the amount to your taste. This mixture will serve as the creamy base of your salad, adding a tangy and aromatic flavor.
  3. Add a pinch of fine sea salt to the yogurt mixture, tasting as you go to ensure the seasoning is to your liking. The salt will enhance the flavors and help balance the tanginess of the yogurt.
  4. Pour the yogurt dressing over the cucumber slices in the large bowl. Use a spatula or large spoon to gently toss the cucumbers with the dressing, ensuring each slice is evenly coated. Be careful not to break the cucumber slices as you mix.
  5. Once the cucumbers are well coated, transfer the salad to a serving dish. This dish is best served immediately to maintain the freshness and crunch of the cucumbers.
  6. Serve the Indonesian Cucumber Salad 2 with fresh bread on the side, allowing diners to enjoy the creamy, tangy salad with a soft, chewy accompaniment.
