Persian Tomato Salad 2

Persian Tomato Salad 2 finds its roots in the heart of home kitchens, where it is crafted without ceremony yet with mindful precision. This dish emerges as a staple on the Persian table, reminiscent of familial gatherings where recipes are passed down through generations, each cook adding their own touch. It is as much a part of everyday meals as it is a companion to more elaborate spreads, always made with a generous use of ingredients and a keen sense of communal dining.

The salad offers a vibrant medley of flavors, where the juiciness of ripe tomatoes and crisp cucumbers meets the richness of olive oil, all brightened by a squeeze of fresh lemon. Fine sea salt is added with instinctive care, enhancing the natural taste of each element. Fresh herbs add a fragrant note, making each bite refreshing and invigorating. This salad is best enjoyed as soon as it's made, capturing the essence of its simple, yet profound, ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 3tomatoes
  • 1cucumber
  • 80 mlolive oil
  • lemonjuiced
  • herbs — chopped
  • to tastefine sea salt

Method

  1. Start by washing 3 tomatoes and 1 cucumber thoroughly under cold running water. Pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel. Slice the tomatoes into thin wedges and the cucumber into half-moon slices. Aim for uniform thickness to ensure even flavor distribution.
  2. Place the sliced tomatoes and cucumber into a large mixing bowl. This will allow you to toss the salad easily without spilling. Keep the bowl in the refrigerator while you prepare the dressing to maintain the freshness of the vegetables.
  3. In a small bowl, combine 80 ml of olive oil with the juice of one lemon. Whisk them together until the mixture is well emulsified. The dressing should appear slightly thickened and uniform in color.
  4. Remove the mixing bowl with the vegetables from the refrigerator. Pour the olive oil and lemon dressing over the tomatoes and cucumber. Sprinkle fine sea salt to taste, keeping in mind that Persian salads often have a noticeable saltiness to enhance the flavors.
  5. Add a generous handful of fresh herbs, such as parsley, mint, or cilantro, finely chopped. These herbs will add a fragrant aroma and vibrant color to the salad.
  6. Using a large spoon, gently toss the salad. Be careful to mix the ingredients without breaking the tomato wedges or cucumber slices. The goal is to coat each piece with the dressing while keeping them intact.
  7. Taste the salad and adjust the seasoning if necessary. The flavors should be bright and balanced, with the acidity of the lemon complementing the richness of the olive oil.
  8. Serve the Persian Tomato Salad 2 immediately, accompanied by fresh bread. This salad is best enjoyed fresh, with the crispness of the vegetables and the aromatic herbs at their peak.
