American Potato Side 2

American Potato Side 2 is a staple at home-cooked meals across the country, embodying the straightforward and hearty spirit of American cooking. This dish is often served at family dinners, where the table is set for sharing and conversation is as abundant as the food. Cooked with a generous hand, it reflects the informal approach of home cooks who rely more on instinct than precision.

The potatoes turn out golden and crispy, their edges kissed with paprika and a sprinkle of fine sea salt. Black pepper adds a gentle warmth, making each bite satisfyingly savory. The result is a dish that feels comforting and familiar, inviting everyone to dig in and enjoy.

Ingredients

  • 1 kgpotatoes
  • 80 mloil
  • 1 tsppaprika
  • to tastefine sea salt and black pepper

Method

  1. Peel and cut the 1 kg of potatoes into even-sized cubes, about 1/2 inch each. This ensures they cook uniformly and at the same rate, preventing any pieces from being undercooked or overcooked.
  2. In a large skillet or sauté pan, heat 80 ml of oil over medium heat. The oil should shimmer slightly, indicating it's hot enough for cooking.
  3. Add the potatoes to the pan, spreading them out in an even layer. Stir occasionally to ensure they cook evenly on all sides. You'll know they're ready for the next step when they start to turn golden brown and are tender when pierced with a fork.
  4. Sprinkle 1 tsp of paprika over the potatoes, stirring well to coat them evenly. This will add a warm, smoky flavor and a slight reddish hue to the dish.
  5. Season the potatoes with fine sea salt and black pepper to taste. Stir to combine, ensuring the seasoning is distributed throughout.
  6. Continue to cook for another minute or two, allowing the flavors to meld together. The potatoes should be fully tender and have a slight crispness on the outside.
  7. Transfer the potatoes to a serving dish and serve warm. This dish is best enjoyed immediately, while the potatoes are still hot and flavorful.
