Colombian Warm Spice Blend 2

Colombian Warm Spice Blend 2 is a staple in Colombian kitchens, offering a fragrant mix that elevates everyday meals. This blend is not tied to a specific occasion but is instead a versatile companion to the Colombian table, ready to add depth to a variety of dishes from breakfast to dinner. Whether sprinkled over morning arepas or stirred into evening stews, its presence is both familiar and essential.

The blend's warmth comes from a harmonious balance of cinnamon and cardamom, punctuated by the boldness of black pepper and cloves. A touch of fine sea salt ties everything together, creating a flavor profile that is both comforting and robust. This spice blend should feel like a gentle embrace, its aroma welcoming and its taste a delicate dance of warmth and spice.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbspcinnamon
  • 1 tbspcardamom
  • 1 tspcloves
  • 1 tspblack pepper
  • 1 tspfine sea salt

Method

  1. Begin by placing a small, dry skillet over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons of cinnamon, 1 tablespoon of cardamom, 1 teaspoon of cloves, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper to the skillet. Stir the spices gently with a wooden spoon to ensure even toasting. Continue stirring until the spices release a warm, aromatic fragrance and the cinnamon takes on a slightly darker hue, indicating they are perfectly toasted.
  2. Remove the skillet from the heat and transfer the toasted spices to a plate to cool completely. This cooling step is crucial to prevent any residual heat from altering the spices' flavors during the grinding process.
  3. Once the spices are completely cool, transfer them to a spice grinder or mortar and pestle. Add 1 teaspoon of fine sea salt to the mixture. Grind the spices until they form a uniform, fine powder, ensuring that the salt is evenly distributed throughout the blend.
  4. Transfer the ground spice blend into an airtight container. Choose a container that seals tightly to preserve the blend's aroma and flavor.
  5. Store the container in a cool, dark place, such as a pantry or cupboard, to protect the spices from light and moisture. For optimal flavor, use the Colombian Warm Spice Blend 2 within a few months of preparation.
