Indian Warm Spice Blend 2

Serves about 1/2 cup Spice Mix vegan, Spice Mixes

Indian Warm Spice Blend 2

Indian Warm Spice Blend 2 is a fundamental pantry staple, integral to the Indian culinary landscape. This blend is a versatile companion, finding its way into a multitude of dishes, from rich curries to sweet desserts. It's a quiet presence, yet its absence is felt profoundly, especially during festive seasons when the air is filled with the anticipation of elaborate feasts.

This blend brings a harmonious balance of warmth and spice, with the sweet notes of cinnamon and cardamom playing against the robust backdrop of cloves and black pepper. The fine sea salt subtly enhances these flavors, creating a comforting and aromatic experience that elevates each dish it graces.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbspcinnamon
  • 1 tbspcardamom
  • 1 tspcloves
  • 1 tspblack pepper
  • 1 tspfine sea salt

Method

  1. Begin by placing a small, dry skillet over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons of cinnamon, 1 tablespoon of cardamom, 1 teaspoon of cloves, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper to the skillet. Stir the spices gently with a wooden spoon to ensure even toasting. Continue stirring until the spices release a warm, fragrant aroma and the cinnamon darkens slightly, indicating the oils have been activated.
  2. Once the spices are toasted, remove the skillet from the heat and transfer the spices to a cool plate or bowl. Allow them to cool completely, which will prevent any moisture from forming when grinding, ensuring a fine, dry powder.
  3. Once cooled, place the spices in a spice grinder or a mortar and pestle. Add 1 teaspoon of fine sea salt to the mix. Grind the spices together until they form a uniform, fine powder. The blend should be smooth and well-combined, with no visible chunks of the individual spices.
  4. Transfer the ground spice blend into an airtight container. Ensure the lid is tightly sealed to prevent air exposure, which can diminish the potency of the spices over time.
  5. Store the container in a cool, dark place, such as a pantry or cupboard, to protect the spices from light and heat, which can degrade their flavors. Use the Indian Warm Spice Blend 2 within a few months to enjoy its full aromatic potential.
