Indonesian Chili Salt 2

Serves about 1/2 cup Spice Mix vegan, Spice Mixes

Indonesian Chili Salt 2

Indonesian Chili Salt 2 is a pantry staple that finds its place in the heart of Indonesian kitchens. This blend is a go-to seasoning, lending its fiery touch to everyday meals across the archipelago. Whether sprinkled over freshly grilled seafood or used to season a simple stir-fry, this spice mix brings a burst of flavor that transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary.

The blend offers a balanced heat from the chili flakes, a savory depth from the garlic powder, and a warm earthiness from the cumin. Fine sea salt ties these elements together, creating a harmonious seasoning that enhances the natural flavors of any dish it graces. This isn't just about heat; it's about elevating each bite into a memorable taste experience.

Ingredients

  • 3 tbspchili flakes
  • 2 tbspfine sea salt
  • 1 tbspgarlic powder
  • 1 tspcumin

Method

  1. Begin by placing a small, dry skillet over medium heat. Add 3 tablespoons of chili flakes and 1 teaspoon of cumin to the skillet. Stir continuously with a wooden spoon to ensure even toasting. You will know they are ready when the chili flakes darken slightly and the cumin releases a warm, nutty aroma, usually after a few minutes.
  2. Remove the skillet from the heat and let the toasted spices cool completely. This step is crucial as grinding hot spices can lead to clumping and uneven texture.
  3. Once cooled, transfer the toasted spices to a spice grinder or mortar and pestle. Add 2 tablespoons of fine sea salt and 1 tablespoon of garlic powder to the mix. Grind or combine the ingredients until they are evenly mixed and the texture is consistent throughout.
  4. Transfer the Indonesian Chili Salt 2 blend to an airtight container. Ensure the container is sealed tightly to prevent moisture from affecting the spices.
  5. Store the container in a cool, dark place, such as a pantry or cupboard, to maintain the blend's potency and flavor.
  6. For optimal aroma and taste, use the Indonesian Chili Salt 2 within a few months. This blend can be used to enhance various Indonesian dishes, adding a spicy and savory kick.
