Lebanese House Rub 2

Serves about 1/2 cup Spice Mix vegan, Spice Mixes

Lebanese House Rub 2

Lebanese House Rub 2 is a quintessential pantry staple, capturing the essence of Lebanese culinary tradition. While it doesn't belong to a specific day or event, this blend is an everyday companion in the Lebanese kitchen, ready to infuse dishes with its aromatic character. Whether sprinkled over grilled meats or added to stews, its presence is quietly transformative.

The rub delivers a warm earthiness from ground cumin and a subtle sweetness from paprika, balanced by the citrusy notes of ground coriander. The fine sea salt ties these flavors together, while black pepper adds a gentle kick. This blend is less about ceremony and more about the simple pleasure of enhancing everyday meals.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbspground cumin
  • 2 tbsppaprika
  • 1 tbspground coriander
  • 1 tspblack pepper
  • 1 tbspfine sea salt

Method

  1. Place a small, dry skillet over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons of ground cumin, 2 tablespoons of paprika, 1 tablespoon of ground coriander, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper to the skillet. Stir the spices continuously with a wooden spoon for about 2 to 3 minutes until you notice a warm, earthy aroma and the spices appear slightly darker in color.
  2. Remove the skillet from heat and immediately transfer the toasted spices to a large plate or a shallow bowl to cool completely. This prevents the spices from continuing to cook and potentially burning, which would give them a bitter taste.
  3. Once the spices are completely cool, add 1 tablespoon of fine sea salt to the mixture. If you have a spice grinder or a mortar and pestle, use it to grind the spices together until they are evenly combined and have a uniform texture. If you don't have these tools, mix thoroughly with a spoon to ensure even distribution of the salt.
  4. Transfer the blended spices to an airtight container, such as a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. Store the jar in a cool, dark place, like a pantry or cupboard, to protect the spices from light and moisture, which can degrade their flavor.
  5. For the best aroma and flavor, use the Lebanese House Rub 2 within a few months. This blend is perfect for seasoning meats, vegetables, or as a base for marinades, bringing a touch of Lebanese flair to your dishes.
