Middle Eastern House Rub 2

Middle Eastern House Rub 2 is a pantry staple essential for bringing the vibrant flavors of the Middle Eastern table to life. This versatile blend is used across the region to season meats, vegetables, and grains, adding depth and warmth to everyday dishes. It’s a reliable companion for any cook aiming to infuse their creations with the distinct essence of Middle Eastern cuisine.

Expect a bold, aromatic profile dominated by the earthiness of cumin and the smoky warmth of paprika. The subtle citrusy undertone of coriander complements the robust kick of black pepper, all harmonized by the fine sea salt. This rub transforms simple ingredients into a feast for the senses, capturing the heart of Middle Eastern cooking in every sprinkle.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbspground cumin
  • 2 tbsppaprika
  • 1 tbspground coriander
  • 1 tspblack pepper
  • 1 tbspfine sea salt

Method

  1. Start by placing a small, dry skillet over medium heat. Add 2 tbsp ground cumin, 2 tbsp paprika, 1 tbsp ground coriander, and 1 tsp black pepper to the skillet. Stir continuously with a wooden spoon to ensure even toasting. You'll know the spices are ready when they release a warm, aromatic fragrance and the color deepens slightly, which should take about 2 to 3 minutes.
  2. Remove the skillet from the heat and immediately transfer the toasted spices to a cool plate or bowl to stop the cooking process. Allow the spices to cool completely, which is crucial to prevent moisture buildup when storing.
  3. Once the spices have cooled, combine them with 1 tbsp fine sea salt in a spice grinder or mortar and pestle. Grind or mix until the blend is evenly combined, ensuring a uniform texture throughout.
  4. Transfer the spice blend to an airtight container, such as a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. Store the jar in a cool, dark place, like a pantry or cupboard, to protect the spices from light and heat, which can degrade their flavor.
  5. For optimal aroma and potency, use the Middle Eastern House Rub 2 within a few months. This blend is perfect for seasoning meats, vegetables, or as a base for marinades, bringing a warm, earthy flavor to your dishes.
