Pakistani House Rub 2

Serves about 1/2 cup Spice Mix vegan, Spice Mixes

Pakistani House Rub 2

Pakistani House Rub 2 is a versatile pantry blend that finds its roots in the bustling kitchens of Pakistan, where it plays a crucial role in seasoning everyday meals. This aromatic mix is often prepared in bulk and stored in glass jars, ready to infuse any dish with its robust flavors. Whether used to marinate meats or sprinkled over vegetables, this rub is a staple that ensures the essence of Pakistani cuisine is always within reach.

The blend offers a harmonious balance of earthy cumin, smoky paprika, and citrusy coriander, rounded off with a hint of black pepper and a touch of sea salt. It delivers a warm, aromatic punch that enhances the natural flavors of the ingredients it accompanies, making every meal a celebration of Pakistani culinary flair.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbspground cumin
  • 2 tbsppaprika
  • 1 tbspground coriander
  • 1 tspblack pepper
  • 1 tbspfine sea salt

Method

  1. Begin by placing a small, dry skillet over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons of ground cumin and 1 tablespoon of ground coriander to the skillet. Stir continuously with a wooden spoon for about 2 to 3 minutes until the spices release a warm, nutty aroma and slightly darken in color.
  2. Remove the skillet from the heat and immediately transfer the toasted spices to a plate to cool. This prevents them from continuing to cook in the hot pan, which could lead to bitterness.
  3. Once the spices have cooled completely, combine them in a mixing bowl with 2 tablespoons of paprika, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 tablespoon of fine sea salt. Use a whisk or spoon to mix until the blend is uniform in color and texture.
  4. Transfer the spice blend into an airtight container, such as a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. Ensure the container is completely dry before adding the spice mix to prevent clumping.
  5. Store the container in a cool, dark place, like a pantry or cupboard, to preserve the spices' freshness and potency. For the best aroma and flavor, aim to use the Pakistani House Rub 2 within a few months.
