Saffron Tea Spice Mix

Serves about 1/2 cup Spice Mix vegan, Spice Mixes

Saffron Tea Spice Mix

Saffron tea spice mix is a cherished aromatic blend integral to Persian tea service, weaving its way into gatherings both casual and grand. This mix, often prepared in advance and stored in small jars, is an invitation to savor the elegance of saffron at any moment. Each family may hold its own treasured ratio, but the essence remains a constant companion to steaming cups of tea.

The blend should unfold with the warm, floral embrace of saffron threads, the citrusy whisper of cardamom, and the delicate perfume of dried rose petals. The subtle inclusion of fine sea salt balances the sweetness, enhancing the depth of this aromatic medley. Stirred into freshly brewed tea, it brings a gentle touch of luxury to every sip.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbspdried rose petals
  • 1 tbspcardamom pods — crushed
  • 1 tspsaffron threads
  • 1 tbspfine sea salt

Method

  1. Begin by placing a small, dry skillet over low heat. Add 1 tbsp of cardamom pods to the skillet. Stir them gently with a wooden spoon for about 2-3 minutes until you notice a warm, fragrant aroma and the pods start to slightly crack open.
  2. Add 1 tsp of saffron threads to the skillet with the cardamom. Continue to stir gently for another minute. The saffron should release a deep, golden color and a rich, floral scent, indicating it is ready.
  3. Remove the skillet from the heat and immediately add 2 tbsp of dried rose petals. Stir them briefly in the residual heat of the pan until they become slightly crisp and release a sweet, floral fragrance.
  4. Transfer the toasted mixture to a plate and allow it to cool completely. This step is crucial to prevent moisture from affecting the grinding process.
  5. Once cooled, place the mixture in a spice grinder or mortar and pestle. Add 1 tbsp of fine sea salt. Grind or combine until the mixture is evenly blended into a fine powder.
  6. Transfer the Saffron Tea Spice Mix to an airtight container. Ensure the container is sealed tightly to preserve the aroma and flavor.
  7. Store the container in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight. Use the mix within a few months to enjoy its full aromatic potential.
