Korean Meat Pastry Bites 3

Korean Meat Pastry Bites 3 is a beloved staple at Korean home tables, embodying the warmth of family meals and the art of intuitive cooking. This dish captures the essence of everyday Korean dining, where salt is measured by instinct and the richness of fat is celebrated. Passed down with care, it represents the home version of a cherished recipe, lovingly adapted by each cook who prepares it.

With each bite, you'll experience the savory depth of seasoned ground beef harmoniously mingling with the sweetness of onion, all encased in a crisp, golden pastry. The texture is a delightful contrast between the tender filling and the crunchy exterior, inviting you to savor the comforting simplicity of this Korean classic.

Ingredients

  • 300 gground beef
  • 1onion
  • 12pastry wrappers
  • for fryingoil
  • to tastefine sea salt and black pepper

Method

  1. Start by finely dicing the onion. The smaller the pieces, the better they will integrate with the beef, providing a more uniform flavor throughout the filling. Set the diced onion aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the 300 g of ground beef with the diced onion. Use your hands to mix them together thoroughly, ensuring the onion is evenly distributed throughout the beef. This will help the flavors meld together during cooking.
  3. Season the beef and onion mixture with fine sea salt and black pepper to taste. Remember, the seasoning should be balanced but noticeable, enhancing the natural flavors of the beef and onion.
  4. Lay out the 12 pastry wrappers on a clean surface. Place a small spoonful of the beef mixture onto the center of each wrapper. Be careful not to overfill, as this can cause the pastry to burst during cooking.
  5. Fold each pastry wrapper over the filling to form a half-moon shape. Press the edges firmly to seal, using a little water if necessary to help the edges stick together. A tight seal is crucial to prevent the filling from leaking out while frying.
  6. Heat a generous amount of frying oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. The oil should be deep enough to cover at least half of the pastry bites. Wait until the oil shimmers, indicating it's hot enough for frying.
  7. Carefully place the sealed pastry bites into the hot oil, frying in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pan. Fry them until they are golden brown and crispy on both sides, turning once. The pastry should be crisp and the filling cooked through, with a rich aroma of beef and onion.
  8. Once cooked, remove the pastry bites from the oil and drain on a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil. Finish with a light sprinkle of fine sea salt while they're still hot, enhancing the crispiness and flavor. Serve immediately, encouraging everyone to share and enjoy the freshly made bites.
