Korean Meat Pastry Bites

Korean Meat Pastry Bites bring a cozy sense of comfort to the table, embodying the warm hospitality of Korean home cooking. This dish captures the essence of informal gatherings, where family and friends come together to share simple, satisfying bites. It's a staple at home-cooked meals, created with an intuitive touch, as the salt and seasonings are finely tuned by hand, and the use of fat is generous, ensuring every morsel is rich and full-flavored.

These bites offer a delightful contrast between the crispy, golden pastry exterior and the savory, juicy filling of seasoned ground beef and onions. Each bite is a harmonious blend of textures and flavors, with the pastry providing a satisfying crunch that gives way to the tender, well-seasoned meat. Enjoy them hot, straight from the pan, as a perfect appetizer or snack that invites everyone to dig in and enjoy the familiar taste of Korean home cooking.

Ingredients

  • 300 gground beef
  • 1onion
  • 12pastry wrappers
  • for fryingoil
  • to tastefine sea salt and black pepper

Method

  1. Begin by finely chopping 1 onion. This will ensure it cooks evenly and blends well with the ground beef. Also, prepare 12 pastry wrappers by laying them flat on a clean surface, ready for filling.
  2. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine 300 g ground beef with the chopped onion. Season the mixture with fine sea salt and black pepper to taste, mixing thoroughly with your hands until the ingredients are well incorporated.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add enough oil for frying. Once the oil is shimmering, add the beef and onion mixture. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned and the onions are translucent, indicating that the flavors have melded together.
  4. Remove the beef mixture from the heat and let it cool slightly. This will make it easier to handle when filling the pastry wrappers.
  5. Place about a tablespoon of the beef mixture onto the center of each pastry wrapper. Fold the wrappers over the filling, sealing the edges by pressing them together firmly. You can use a little water to help seal the edges if necessary.
  6. In the same skillet, add more oil if needed and heat over medium-high heat. Carefully place the filled pastry bites into the skillet, seam side down. Fry them until the pastry is golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking on all sides.
  7. Once the pastry bites are golden and crispy, remove them from the skillet and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  8. Finish with a light sprinkle of fine sea salt while the bites are still warm. Serve immediately, allowing everyone to enjoy the crispy exterior and savory filling as part of a shared meal.
