Thai Meat Pastry Bites 2

Thai Meat Pastry Bites 2 are a beloved staple in Thai home kitchens, where they are prepared with an intuitive touch, balancing flavors by feel rather than strict measurements. This dish is a family favorite, often appearing on the table during casual gatherings or as a comforting snack. Its roots lie in the everyday cooking practices of Thai households, where simplicity and sharing are key.

Biting into these pastries reveals a rich, savory filling of seasoned ground beef and onions, encased in a crisp, golden wrapper. The generous use of fat in frying creates a satisfying crunch that contrasts beautifully with the tender, flavorful interior. Salt and pepper are added by instinct, enhancing the natural taste of the ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 300 gground beef
  • 1onion
  • 12pastry wrappers
  • for fryingoil
  • to tastefine sea salt and black pepper

Method

  1. Begin by finely chopping 1 onion. This will ensure that the onion cooks quickly and evenly, blending seamlessly with the ground beef.
  2. In a medium-sized skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium-high heat. Once the oil shimmers, add the chopped onion. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant, which should take about 3 to 4 minutes.
  3. Add 300 g of ground beef to the skillet with the onions. Use a wooden spoon to break up the meat into small pieces, allowing it to brown evenly. Cook until the beef is no longer pink and has a slightly caramelized appearance, which indicates that the flavors have developed.
  4. Season the beef and onion mixture with fine sea salt and black pepper to taste. Stir well to ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
  5. Lay out 12 pastry wrappers on a clean surface. Place a spoonful of the beef mixture onto the center of each wrapper. Fold the wrappers over the filling, sealing the edges by pressing them firmly together to prevent the filling from escaping during cooking.
  6. In a clean skillet, heat enough oil for frying over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the filled pastry bites into the skillet, seam side down. Fry in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pan.
  7. Cook the pastry bites until they are golden brown and crispy on both sides, turning once. This should take about 2 to 3 minutes per side. Remove them from the skillet and drain on a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil.
  8. Finish the pastry bites with a light sprinkle of fine sea salt immediately after frying. Serve the Thai Meat Pastry Bites 2 at once, while they are still warm and crispy, perfect for sharing at the table.
