Korean Fruit Drink 2

Korean Fruit Drink 2 is a refreshing staple often found gracing Korean home tables, particularly during the sweltering summer months. This home-style version reflects the intuitive cooking practices of Korean family cooks, where ingredients are adjusted by feel rather than strict measurements. It’s a drink meant to be shared, capturing the essence of informal gatherings and the joy of communal dining.

The drink is a balance of tart citrus and sweet simplicity. Whether you choose lemons or oranges as your centerpiece, the fruit’s vibrancy mingles with sugar and water to create a thirst-quenching elixir. Served chilled over ice, it’s a delightful way to cool down and savor a taste that feels both refreshing and comforting.

Ingredients

  • 4lemons or oranges
  • 100 gsugar
  • 1 Lwater
  • as neededice

Method

  1. Start by preparing the citrus fruits. Take 4 lemons or oranges and wash them thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt or wax. Using a sharp knife, slice each fruit into thin, even rounds. This will ensure that the maximum flavor is extracted when combined with the other ingredients.
  2. In a medium-sized pot, pour in 1 liter of water. Add the sliced citrus fruits to the pot. Set the heat to medium and allow the mixture to come to a gentle simmer. As it heats, the citrus oils and juices will infuse the water, creating a fragrant base for the drink.
  3. Once the water begins to simmer, add 100 grams of sugar to the pot. Stir gently with a wooden spoon to dissolve the sugar completely. The sugar should integrate smoothly, without any granules remaining at the bottom of the pot, creating a balanced sweetness that complements the citrus.
  4. Continue to simmer the mixture for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. You will notice a slight thickening of the liquid and a deepening of the citrus aroma. This indicates that the infusion is complete and the base is ready.
  5. Remove the pot from the heat and let it cool to room temperature. Once cooled, strain the liquid through a fine mesh sieve into a large bowl or pitcher to remove the citrus slices. This step ensures a smooth, pulp-free drink.
  6. Place the strained liquid in the refrigerator to chill thoroughly. This cooling step is crucial as it enhances the refreshing quality of the drink, making it perfect for serving on a warm day.
  7. When ready to serve, fill a traditional Korean glass with ice cubes. Pour the chilled fruit drink over the ice, filling the glass to the brim. Serve immediately to enjoy the crisp, refreshing taste of the Korean Fruit Drink 2, perfect for sharing with family and friends.
