Korean Yogurt Drink 2

Korean Yogurt Drink 2 is a comforting staple at Korean home tables, crafted with care and instinct. Unlike its commercially bottled counterparts, this homemade version embraces the generous use of fat and the precise touch of a seasoned cook's hand when adding salt. It's a refreshing accompaniment to meals, often prepared to balance the flavors of a hearty spread.

The drink should be creamy yet light, with a subtle tang from the yogurt that’s perfectly offset by a hint of salt. Served chilled, it offers a refreshingly smooth texture that glides over the palate, making it an ideal palate cleanser during a rich Korean meal.

Ingredients

  • 400 gyogurt
  • 300 mlcold water
  • 1/2 tspfine sea salt
  • as neededice

Method

  1. Start by chilling your serving glasses in the refrigerator or freezer. This step ensures that your Korean Yogurt Drink 2 stays refreshingly cold when served.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, measure out 400 g of yogurt. Use a whisk to gently stir the yogurt until it becomes smooth and free of lumps. This will ensure an even consistency when combined with the other ingredients.
  3. Slowly add 300 ml of cold water to the yogurt, pouring it in a steady stream. Continue to whisk gently as you pour to maintain the smooth texture of the drink. The mixture should appear slightly frothy and well-blended, without any separation.
  4. Add 1/2 tsp of fine sea salt to the yogurt mixture. Stir gently to dissolve the salt completely. The salt should enhance the flavor without being overpowering, creating a balanced taste that is characteristic of this traditional drink.
  5. Prepare your serving glasses by filling them with ice as needed. The ice will keep the drink chilled and refreshing, perfect for a warm day or as a palate cleanser during a meal.
  6. Pour the yogurt drink over the ice in the chilled glasses. Serve immediately to enjoy the drink at its optimal temperature and texture. The drink should have a creamy, slightly tangy flavor with a hint of saltiness, making it a delightful accompaniment to a variety of dishes.
