Thai Fruit Drink 2

Thai Fruit Drink 2 is a cherished refreshment found at many Thai family tables, particularly during the warm, vibrant days of the Thai New Year, Songkran. This home-style version embodies the informal, generous spirit of Thai hospitality, where ingredients are adjusted by instinct rather than precision. It’s a simple yet refreshing testament to the Thai way of balancing flavors, offering a cooling respite from the heat.

Expect a crisp, citrusy burst from the lemons or oranges, harmonized with a subtle sweetness from the sugar. This drink refreshes with each sip, the ice lending a pleasant chill that enhances the zesty and sweet notes. It's a taste of home, uncomplicated and perfectly suited for sharing in the sun-drenched afternoons.

Ingredients

  • 4lemons or oranges
  • 100 gsugar
  • 1 Lwater
  • as neededice

Method

  1. Begin by juicing the 4 lemons or oranges. Use a citrus juicer to extract as much juice as possible, ensuring no seeds make it into the juice. Strain the juice through a fine-mesh sieve into a large pitcher to remove any pulp, achieving a smooth base for your drink.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine 100 g of sugar with 1 L of water. Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir gently until the sugar completely dissolves. The mixture should become clear, indicating that the sugar is fully integrated.
  3. Once the sugar has dissolved, remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the sugar water to cool to room temperature. This cooling step is crucial to preserve the fresh citrus aroma when combined later.
  4. Pour the cooled sugar water into the pitcher containing the citrus juice. Stir gently with a long spoon to combine, ensuring that the flavors meld without losing the delicate citrus aroma.
  5. Prepare a large serving glass by filling it with ice. Pour the Thai Fruit Drink 2 over the ice, filling the glass to the brim. The ice will chill the drink instantly, enhancing its refreshing quality.
  6. Serve the drink immediately in traditional glassware, if available, to honor the authentic Thai experience. Enjoy the balance of sweet and tangy flavors, a hallmark of this traditional Thai fruit drink.
