Vietnamese Yogurt Drink

Vietnamese Yogurt Drink is a refreshing treat often enjoyed at home, where it is prepared with a generous hand and a focus on sharing. This version captures the essence of a family gathering, with salt added by feel and a rich texture that invites everyone to the table.

The drink combines yogurt, cold water, and a touch of fine sea salt, creating a balance of tangy and savory flavors. Served chilled over ice, it offers a cooling respite, perfect for warm days and friendly conversations.

Ingredients

  • 400 gyogurt
  • 300 mlcold water
  • 1/2 tspfine sea salt
  • as neededice

Method

  1. Start by chilling the yogurt base. Place 400 g of yogurt in the refrigerator for at least an hour before you begin making the drink. This ensures the yogurt is cold and refreshing, which is essential for the authentic taste of a Vietnamese Yogurt Drink.
  2. Once the yogurt is chilled, measure 300 ml of cold water. It's important to use cold water to maintain the temperature and consistency of the drink. The water will help thin the yogurt to the right drinkable consistency.
  3. Add 1/2 tsp of fine sea salt to the cold water. Stir gently until the salt is fully dissolved. The salt enhances the flavor of the yogurt, bringing out its natural tanginess without overpowering it.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chilled yogurt with the salted water. Use a whisk to gently mix them together until smooth. Be careful not to whisk too vigorously, as this could cause the yogurt to lose its creamy texture and aroma.
  5. Prepare your serving glasses by filling them with ice as needed. The ice will keep the drink cold and refreshing, a key characteristic of this beverage.
  6. Pour the yogurt mixture over the ice in each glass. Serve immediately to enjoy the contrast of the creamy yogurt with the cold, refreshing ice. This is best enjoyed with traditional Vietnamese glassware, which enhances the experience of this home-style drink.
